When a backlock locks in open position.

+1

And they all sound differently (probably true for any locktype, but at the moment I have exclusivly backlocks except one comp. lock PM2) - even in the exact same model!

I think I could tell most of my knives apart with closed eyes just by hearing the sound when they lock open..

For example my HAP 40 Stretch has a very bright and loud sound, almost like a baby-gun-shot, while my VG 10 Stretch sounds much quieter and softer (might be due to the fact that I´ve owned the VG10 Stretch for much longer, it has seen more use and probably is "gunked up" more in the lock area than the HAP 40 one)
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

The sound of a Military locking open when you cup your hand just right at the back of the handle so the sound echos out from inside the handle? :D

This is exactly what I wanted to post here... :D

I even said in the "Comp.lock Military 2" thread that one of the many things I prefer and would miss in the linerlock Millie IS the great "double click" when it locks open... ;)

Same here. It reminds me of the sound that an old and trusty bolt action rifle makes when you chamber a round. It's very distinct and there's not another sound quite like it.
Do right always. It will give you satisfaction in life.

Even as a former Evo X owner...there's no denying the sound of the boxer rumble, especially with a nice exhaust system :)

On my K2 for example. Oh how I love this sound...

I like the sound of walking on snow when it's really quiet. Of course we've gotten quite a bit of snow in the last week.

I love the sound of a Golden backlock sliding into lock.

I love the sound of song birds in the morning.

I love the smell of autumn leaves, as well as new fallen snow.

That's a medium sized hammer Sal. My Sahinler is a third as big as that one 110lb. It's the same size as the one Howard has. It's a 3B with 400lb falling weight. I know of some Nazels sized 6. They all have a great rhythm.

I watched the demo in Seki of Sword making the "old" way. 6 guys hammering the hot blade. They got the rhythm down. A nice sound.

Yessir, nothing like the old ways. The master smith taps to show them where he wants them to hit and the rhythm follows. A good team of strikers is a pleasure to watch and exceptional to be a part of.

Our friend Larry Harley was interested in working up what he called the "Anvil Chorus." A rhythm section using only blacksmith shop tools. That'd be very cool. Definitely got a beat you can dance to. People with the disease of steel have particularly acute hearing for such things.
