when you spend $130 on dead plants, it really makes pocket knives look like a great value.

Then spend $130 on live plants.

I usually buy a potted plant for my wife instead of cut flowers.

Yep! Don't even want to think of how many knives I could have bought with all the money I've spent on flowers and cards over the years :p

But, it makes her happy...and that's what really counts!

don’t get me wrong... i love my wife like crazy. these flowers are to celebrate our 16th anniversary. but she’s going to smile for a few days for these flowers. you know how many times i’ve smiled fidgeting with my yojimbo over the last year? all of the times. :)

You have not met the right man or woman yet. Flowers are usually to be given with a gift or a card.

I use to buy my gf's flowers with clothes. I bought my last gf a hand made dress($550) in Palo Alto, CA, and delivered them with flowers($75) to boot. She loved them!

definitely not the case. like i said, these flowers are for our 16th anniversary. i'm happy to buy her what she wants and likes. it just struck me as funny that i squirm over spending the same amount on a pocket knife that i'll carry forever, but i'll happily spend it on dead plants because it makes her smile for a week.

Flowers are beautiful, and so is my wife. Now, the expensive cards are another story. I like to make cards on my phone with various apps and pics. She likes that. It would be nice if flowers lasted longer. Just don't get roses. They are the worst.
- best wishes, Jazz.

My mother hated cut flowers so much we didn't buy anything but live plants for her funeral. She hated the idea of cutting/killing a flower just to have them for a few days.

For the most part flowers do seem like a "girl thing" for sure. I've owned 3 homes over the years and I've never planted one flower unless they were given to me. It made far more sense to me to plant schrubs, hedges, ivy and trees along with other permanent type plants that would endure for years and not need nearly as much maintenance as flowers require but yet still made a house look more "Homey".

Most guys I know plant flowers just to make the wife happy. I myself I prefer practical, permanent and plants that are a better investment in the long run.

I’m right with you on that. My Mrs, however, loves having flowering plants of all kinds in the garden, and happily plans, plant, replants every year. I just dig where I’m told ....

With cut flowers, you just have to get wise both to preferences and expectations!

I’m a guy and I plant flowers. Flowering shrubs are a great option. I have azaleas, rhododendrons, hydrangea, lilacs and my favorite which is mountain laurel. I also have TONS of lilies and irises all over the property. Lots of hostas as well. I do have a couple of spots where I put annuals and we do some sunflowers every year but most of my flowers are perennials.

I will cut flowers during the summer for my wife. Some wild and some from around the property but I never buy cut flowers. I always buy her a potted plant of some type.

As far as spending money on her goes, we have been together for 20 years and she gave me a happy, healthy and beautiful son. She is worth every penny.
