Astute ... Yess !
Re: Astute ... Yess !
Every time I sign in to the forum, I go to the Spyderco homepage, see this pic, and I get more and more interested in the Astute.. I think I will probably try to pick on up..
I also like seeing this pic on the Spyderco website because I have these boots.. they are pretty great boots.. Danner Mountain 600s..

I have had much better results from Spyderco's 8cr than Kershaw. Those are the only two brands I've tried it in, though.StuntZombie wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 3:41 pmOut of all the knives in the Reveal, that's the one that's sticking with me the most.
Anyone have thoughts on the performance of Spyderco's 8Cr compared to other brands that use it?
Re: Astute ... Yess !
I’ve used it in knives from several brands. Not sure I could tell a difference. Some people claim Kershaw has some magical heat treat recipe for 8Cr. Who knows.TomAiello wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2020 9:47 pmI have had much better results from Spyderco's 8cr than Kershaw. I think the question is a little bit of denial: “I like this knife, but it has a budget steel. I want to believe
Spyderco has magic that turns that steel into a better steel.”
The reality is 8Cr is a good steel. A really **** good steel for most people. Good corrosion resistance. Easy to sharpen. Holds an edge for a useful amount of time. Decent edge stability.
It may be my last pick for a steel but I’ll take a good design with 8Cr over an average design with whizbang steel. The Astute on paper looks like a good design to me. And it’s in a price range where you can recommend the knife to a normal person and they’ll actually buy it.

Re: Astute ... Yess !
I think you two may have sealed the deal for me on this one.
I'm gonna have to go for it when it's released. There's something about the design that just draws me to it.

Very excited for this guy - for the price, it's going to be an amazing beater for me (and maybe a platform to try out some modding!)

Re: Astute ... Yess !
I once heard a YouTube reviewer (I can't remember which one) refer to the ESEE Zancudo folder as an improved Kershaw Leek. If I were a reviewer, the Astute would probably be my opportunity to make the same comment.

Re: Astute ... Yess !
Thanks for the info. Hopefully the Astute will start showing up on shelves soon. It even fits under my self imposed $100 limit.ladybug93 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2020 8:14 pmmy experience with the resilience is much better than some kershaw i’ve used.StuntZombie wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 3:41 pmOut of all the knives in the Reveal, that's the one that's sticking with me the most.

I answer instead of Mr. Shempp. It's my design. This is my second collab with Spyderco. The first was the Hungarian. Thanks all for the positive feedback.Surfingringo wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 7:01 pmThat design looks like Ed Schempp might have had something to do with it.

I hope this is released soon I'm itching for a new design. My spydie buying has slowed and I don't like this feeling!

I hear ya. Though I like all the new steels and variations of scale colors/materials being made available lately...all new designs are more intriguing than the same models with some variations. As many of us have or have had all these models that are getting all the sprints/exclusives lately. Not that it's stopping me, but I've slowed a little bit myself. Don't feel the need for every release anymore of the same models I already have multiples of.Spydergirl88 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 8:13 pmI hope this is released soon I'm itching for a new design.
