Native 5 lw with SPY27?

#1

Post by JuPaul »

On IG, Knife Center posted a pic of a Native 5 lightweight with the cobalt blue scales and SPY27 steel. That wasn't in the reveal, so it looks like we'll have other models in the new steel to look forward to in the near future.

That's awesome news. I prefer the comp lock of the Para 3 LW, but I like the ergos of the Native 5 better. You made me go look up the pic on IG, and looks nice. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the hint, Julia! :)

Though I am not interested in the Native LW specifically, this, as you said, gives hope for more SPY27 models generally to choose from...

Good catch! Eric also featured the SPY27 Native 5 LW in BladeHQ's coverage video of Shot Show. https://youtu.be/FH4Reaq3St0

The semi-formal "reveal" of the Native 5 LW went unmentioned in the video, but I'm certainly not surprised to see other models featuring the steel.

The reveal did say that SPY27 would be featured in select USA-made models. So not surprising.

Im curious how close the cobalt blue is to the s110v blue? Especially in the lightweights, where the s110v blue has a different shade than its g10 counterparts.

I've been wondering too. It looks really close to me in the pics I've seen.

I like how he mentioned it wasnt in the reveal, but they didnt have any versions of the ones that were in the reveal, and they were already making some of the native 5s so he grabbed one of those. Or something along those lines.
I imagine these will ship the day they are announced.

This is from the KC instagram post. To me it looks a lot like the "dark gray" on the emerson dragonfly, which is really a shade of blue. This looks a bit lighter maybe.

Edit: Here's that df for comparison.

I know they're going for the "cobalt blue" colour scheme to tie into SPY27's metallurgical composition, but I wish it had come in a discreet green (I'm thinking something like foliage green or forest green, not necessarily olive drab, which is sort of overdone) to set it apart further from the S110V version. But it's still a good-looking knife and I'll probably pick one up regardless LOL

^^ this. Pretty sure it's going to be used in all Golden models over time. Unless it underperforms, which I consider unlikely.

Well, they're saying Golden models for this steel. So, your beloved back lock but with a 3.2 mm thick blade in the Native / Lil' Native, or a UKPK with a 2.5 mm thick blade? :p

Wow, need to see that side by side with an S110V lightweight. That photo makes it look virtually identical to my eye.

Well, it's hard to say with lighting being so important, but I guess it could be a lighter blue than my S110V based on this pic I just took.

You´re basically saying that due to SPY27 being limited to Golden knives, not many of my favorite models will come in that steel?

Well, you´re right. :o
It´s Seki models that ususally combine most of the features I prefer.
Still, I´d really like to try a Shaman or Native Chief, and it´s not exactly as if I´d DISlike PM2 orf Millie.. so, still enough to choose from should these models be made in SPY27... :)

Im curious what the other spy27 prices are going to be? The current 2 lightweights are about the same as the g10 s30v alternatives of the same knives.
