Can't find a plain leaf Caribbean anywhere !

Post by elena86 »

I decided to purchase my first Caribbean in plain edge leaf shape blade config but... it's out of stock everywhere  Maybe it's a sign and I should get the leaf shape in spyderedge since I'm a sucker for spyderedges anyway. Yes you guessed, I need some help here .... from those who own and used both maybe .....

Blades Canada has some in stock. I am not sure about European shipping but I have bought from them here in the U.S. with very similar pricing to U.S. retailers.

EDIT: Sheepsfoot PE and SE models only. My bad.

Well, I'm honestly glad to hear that, it's a superb knife!

There's a Leaf PE on Ebay that is $250(ouch), or Knifeworks has the Leaf SE for $169.

I'm eventually going to get a Sheep SE and modify it like Evil D's, his is SHARP!

You can't go wrong, either way.

Also agree in regards to the siren. I am about to try and sell my PE leaf Caribbean so I can fund the siren.

From what I can tell the siren is going to be allot like its fixed blade Father the Waterway.

That being said I do not see it being anywhere near as robust of a knife as the Caribbean.

So the get this over that advice does not really fit other than they are both LC200N, they are two completely different designs.

Not knocking either one but having owned and sold my Waterway and kept my PE Caribbean you can see why I say get both.

I bought the SE Caribbean but it belonged to somebody else, so I gave it to them and I am very pleased to this day to see how much he has not only enjoyed it but shared it with other’s.

Not often one gets such resounding good confirmation of doing something others would consider odd because it feels like the right thing to do.

Bravo!

If the grip wasn't so far from the edge I'd be on board with the Siren. For that reason I'll stick with the Caribbean.

The Caribbean is being CQI’d, should be restocked shortly.

I was told it has something to do with the liners.

Plain or SE ?

Well I've got two and they're both SE so take a guess :D

Probably can't go wrong with either but I'm pretty firmly in Team SE at this point.

I hope they make the detent stronger, that's my only complaint (besides the color).

Get a siren.
This
Not even close to being in the same category. The Caribbean is a heavy duty workhorse that can withstand extreme abuse, while the Siren is a folding version of a fixed blade designed specifically for fishing.
(plus it has a funky, large guard/choil thingy)

The Caribbean, while not everyone's cup of tea, is a different animal and will certainly "outperform" the Siren.

Not bashing the Siren, I'll probably buy one. But it's like comparing a Ford Ranger, to an F-250. They are on different playing fields.

As for CQI, I've not heard any specifics yet. I wonder if they are putting a finer finish on the liners? I still think it was metal contamination from manufacturing that caused the slight bit of staining on my liners. Perhaps an extra finishing step can eliminate it.

But I'm just Sumdumguy, probably wrong! ;)

....
Not saying you´re wrong (how could I, don´t have either a Caribbean or - of course - a Siren), but just out of interest: How do you come to the conclusion "Siren is not even close" when it comes to abuse (in real knife use)?

- Both feature the same steel.
- Certainly the Caribbean has a bit thicker blade stock than the Siren (3.6mm vs 3.2 mm) - imho not a relevant difference in real use (never, ever came even close to break an ffg Endura blade (3.00 mm)
- Certainly the Caribbean tip will be more robust, but just slightly
- On the other hand theoretically the Siren backlock will be a bit stronger than the Caribbean comp.lock - again, not relevant at all in real use, both more than strong enough
- Caribbean has liners, Siren not. Again, certainly the Caribbean will finally be stronger if the stability handles are pushed to the extrem, but in practical, even hardest use it won´t make a real difference

Tbh, I don´t think you´ll find many realistic tasks where the Siren will fail, but the Caribbean will not.
And I don´t think they are literally "on different playing fields"

But again, that´s just my assumptions! Can´t really weigh in, since I don´t have either of this knives.
But as said, I´d be interested in your thought process if you´d like to share.
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)
