I still think that putting a tanto blade into the PM2 is horrible  but I do appreciate how much smart thinking was put into this :spyder: elaboration. For those who buy it, it'll be great.

If they'd given it its own model / design, I might have gotten one. But I'll never accept it as a true PM2.

Hello Tanto, can't wait to buy one.

You know the flash batches thing is kind of strange, Eric says they destroy the tooling etc... I say it is strange because one of the things Sal cites often is taking chances on models because of how expensive tooling is.

I think that phrase was used in a liberal manner. For frn you have molds that you could actually destroy and thus cant reproduce anymore. On a non frn model, I doubt spyderco is taking a sledgehammer to thier cnc machines and grinders etc. Destroying the tooling could mean erased the cnc program? I dont know though.

I get the flash batch concept but destroying tooling...that does sound a bit unnecessary. I guess it's their investment though.

If it's never going to be used again why keep the clutter? I'll bet they keep the CAD files archived. ;)

Yeah, I mean there wouldn't really be any reason to have it laying around if they're never ever going to use it again. And it's not like they could sell it to help recoup costs, obviously. I agree that objectively speaking, destroying it is the only thing to do; it just doesn't feel right to me.

Sorry for the off topic post everyone. :o

One thing we have learned it only takes a batch of 1200 to make it profitable and worth while for Spyderco.

Shucks we could crowd source 1200 easy, as in the only day that was easy was yesterday. Place that quote I dare you!

Think special ops. :)

Destroy might mean change to another tooling.
Destroy means more: not available anymore in the future.

Well, the shaman, and the manix lw and g10 models were the only ones with samples at SHOT, so my guess is those. And they've already made a batch of rex45 shaman blades for the KC model, so...
