I'm proud to now offer customizations and udgrades to almost all models...with the SS models offerering the most room for improvement. I add texture to the handles and thumb ramps of all knives, but prefer working on :spyder: s! ...keep an eye out for my revised SPOT edition I said I'd make in the improvement suggestions thread a while back-I think it will catch on nicely.

I will offer Michael Walker Lightweight buttons and upgrades. And, I will list a neck sheath conversion kit for all TekLok sheaths on ebay soon. I can do MOP and abalone inlays even in FRN for you hard core EDC'ers who want a little flash, too ;)

I will soon offer a customized lock lever modification similiar to a boye dent, but less intrusive and much more asthetically pleasing, too. Congratulations, deacon, its the best of both worlds!!!

Hope you guys like my work, I'll post some nice pictures in a little while.

I took out the comment about where and what I have for sale...please view this action as a token of my sincerity and respect toward the forum and its members, moderators, and founders...I don't want to cause trouble---I want to help out by improving all :spyder: knuts' experience with this great company.

I was first an owner, then a buyer, next a collector, finally a customizer---but always I respected the spydies...Even when my wise father complained about how poor some of the steel was compared to A2, D2, O1 and other high carbon steels that he used, I stood up for my AUS-8 PE endura b/c it was so fast and easy to use!!!

The point is: I've loved spyderco knives since I was a boy; I can now improve many models since I own them. I value all your opinions as a collective with thousands of years combined experience in spydie-carrying!!!

PLEASE HELP ME MAKE THESE GREAT KNIVES BETTER FOR ELUs & MORE PROFITABLE FOR EVEN THE MAN WE ALL RESPECT SO MUCH, MR. GLESSOR!!!

Very sorry that I appeared as trying to 'sell and trade' via the forum! :( Thank you, kind friends, for the admonishments.

I do have things on ebay, but I purposefully did not tell you what auction numbers...as I often do on other people's items that I frequently comment on. I never wanted to pitch a line on my stuff, really; I just don't have a lot made up yet

I guess I should of posted this under "New quality custom Spydie shop in NW AR" or something similiar! ;) I totally agree that selling should be limited to BF or PMs, and hope that I offended no one! I do, however, want to show you my talent by adding this pic of a D'holder toad. I value the quality, knowledge, integrety and honesty that this forum represents and do not want to do anything to berrate it or its virtues.

Please give me some feedback on what customizations you guys would want...I'm thinking of FRN-inlays and SS texturizations mostly. Below is a pic of my first attemp at abalone--a very beautiful addition to any knife IMHO.

There are many people here on the Forum that offer custom work to peoples Spydies. It is not classified as trading or selling. Same as sheath work.
I read your original post last night, you did nothing wrong as you offered your services and not a specific knife to sell or trade.

Great Work!!!! I am not a fan of the Toad but you do it justice. That Abalone is very nice. Take Care!!!!

Sorry JSholly i seem to have understood the post wrong. i didn't realise it was your personal work and you don't seem to have strictly a commercial approach to it. Probably i jumped the bandwagon to fast. The work is nicely done, and as long as it is coming from your heart and not aimed toward making money on behalf of Spyderco i should not have judged you so quick.

Very attractive mod!

Carbon fiber & G10 always seem to be hits -- how about some of that in your work?

Nice work, the ugly Toad became the beautiful prince. ;) Good luck in your venture and don't forget to come here now and then and show us some of your work.

My first customer, chucklehead...

Post by jsholli »

Well, here are the after pics of my work on chucklehead's SS PE delica...the before pics are too large (ooops) and are just like any other SS plain edged delica out there. After working on his, I might have to get a few of my own :p

Actual jewelled filework on 'bottom' of handle and the serrated thumb ramp both add secure handling characteristics that the SS models seriously lack IMHO. The handle's grip texture can also be addressed with microserrations for a very low profile approach that allows the knife to 'stick' in one's hand, but for this job the customer specified jewelled filework like the work done on my endura that I posted a few weeks ago.

Enjoy...get your SS's in to my shop for this awesome upgrade---you'll never have to worry about it slipping again, and it is still easy on your pocket/pocketbook, too ;)

Thanks Paul, dialex, chris, J Smith and anyone else I may've overlooked!

Your opinions and compliments are highly appreciated. ?Ti? clips? Titanium? I don't think I could do that---at least with my current tools available; while not the 'best' alloy for blades, titanium is still super tough stuff...I think it eats any tool/bit/wheel that it touches practically. I'll put it this way: the clips themselves would be fairly simple...especially for someone with one of those fancy CAD machines, but I use hand-tools and power-tools for all my mods currently~don't even have my own drill press yet ;) So, at the level of effort I'd have to put in, the price I would charge would be above what most folks would be willing to pay IMO, (eg. $40 per clip). That estimate is not even an educated one...I'm not even sure where/if I can get the stock titanium to start with!!!

Keep the suggestions coming, guys! I have a lot in mind to get done, but if you can send me even the slightest ideas about improvements for your fav's and craves, I'll try to see that I at least consider the idea :p

Have a great day, everyone; I'm off to the big town of Conway and then to my parents in Quitman for a day or two ;) I'll check my mail and replies upon return.

This just seems right IMO; one handed operation is a breeze...left handed! I was also amazed at how easily the clip went in for LH carry.

Microserrations

#15

Post by jsholli »

Please realize that I did this endura this evening with its only purpose to be illustrative...I normally wouldn't do the WHOLE knife, but I kind of wanted to show off. I got in too much of a hurry and ended up making a few mistakes, but this is the general idea of my microserrations. They tend to minimize mechanical conflicts while enhancing the grip on SS versions. Doing the whole knife is 'pretty' but tends to alter how the knife enters and leaves the pocket; therefore, I would suggest minimal alterations on the top of the handle...

Since the width of these cuts is only limited to the actual thickness of my cutter and my ability to cut steadily, these mods are more widely applicable IMO than classic jewelling with metal files that uses a bigger cut width. ELUs will certainly have the final voice in spacing and cut width, though. -jh

People may disagree but I think it looks somewhat elegant especially with the Boye dent done up.

Tastefully done.
First they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not stand up, because I was not a Trade Unionist.

I really like the work on the Boye Dent. Besides never seeing it done before I think it would be super functional. I hate the dent, my fat fingers tend to slide into it before the lock bar pushes down and the feeling is uncomortable. I end up rolling the knife in my hand and using the side of my finger.

And BTW, I did notice the rest of your work, good job!
