Dear Sal & Eric.

Eric I never see you on the forums so I address your Father who frequents this forum first and foremost yet offer no disrespect for your design of the Dodo!

I have a problem and need some help only you two can provide, cash I have but only you guys can make a reality of steel.

My Girlfriend well wife... we are in our late 40’s and early 50’s respectively.... soon to go legal etc....

She saw my Dodo in M4 with the green scales offered by Blade H.Q. yet again after I died the scales Sapphire Blue.

She asked can you do one for me in Red?

I said baby I am very sorry but this was a sprint run and is not available any longer.

Furthermore I said honey this is not like your Paramilitary 2 in S110V it is a tool steel and it will rust.

She replied well you tell the owner of Spyderco for me I love this design and want a red one and in a stainless steel just like my S110V you gave me!

What choice have I but to say please help me?

If this is a question only the 2 of them could answer...why not send Sal a PM, as Eric doesn't seem to be active here? A thread doesn't seem to be of much use :p

If I tried, and succeeded in doing whatever my wife asked, this world wouldn’t even be recognizable. Welcome to marriage. One thing I have learned. Don’t ask others to make your wife happy. Only you can do that my friend. It’s not on anyone else’s shoulders. My advice, buy her something else. I doubt Sal and Eric can help ya out. Just my .02.

Also, Spyderco has limited time and capability to keep pumping out new models. Let’s save that time and space for something we can all be on board for.

This!
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

I didn't read that at all. He already rit dyed it blue. He explained the jade was M4 and not stainless.
Her final request was to appeal to Sal to produce one in red g10 and stainless.

In my head I did hear all that in a southern accent though.

Email DLT and request a red/M390. That seems to be their combo and they might consider it.

There’s plenty available on eBay, including S30v models. The easiest solution is to buy a jade model & S30v model, dye the jade scales and swap them.
Done.

As we all know, DLT has some of the most sought after exclusives as well as great prices on them! Their active here and I'm sure have noticed how quickly that BHQ exclusive sold out. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if this ends up happening. At their typically great prices, I may even be tempted at that one.

Well if they do I will buy one for sure maybe two, have to get away from M4 though, great steel, love it in my military and Gayle Bradley but for a blade that is close to the pivot like this not the best choice, the pivot remains coated in mineral oil now.

Wait... what? Your girlfriend is in her 40's and your wife is in her 50's? And your wife wants a red knife? What color knife does your girlfriend want? :D

It took about five minutes of googling before I found a source of g10 sheets that appeared suitable for such a project. Why not have a go at it yourself? Wife-To-Be will enjoy it a lot more knowing that her resourceful man created for her a knife that she can carry every day. That sounds like a fun project.

If DLT does one I sure hope the do at least 1200, because even at that they will be gone in less than 10 minutes. I will buy one 1000% for sure!

Here are the pics I took of the Spyderco Dodo just after the dye had dried and shows how well manufactured and simple this design is. Quite eloquent in its superb simplicity and close tolerances of design.

The Blue is actually lighter than what the camera in my phone shows I did hold a scale up to the light to give a truer approximation of the color. Sapphire Blue Rit Dye more for synthetics was uses bath time was 45 minutes at a light simmer because I wanted to eliminate the transparent effect and it is nearly non existent. A lighter color of blue could have been achieved had I bathed it less. I also used a drop of Dawn dish detergent and a 1/4 cup of white vingar.
