Re: Change in price of Spydercos in 2020?
This brings us to the most interesting part: most dealers still have their stock from 2019., but have raised their pricing as if it was stocked in 2020.
Not sure how the factory stands on this, but wouldn't it be fair trading if 2019. stock was being sold on 2019. pricing?
I know that dealers had their announcement of MAP all at the same time and have to respect it, but i left me feeling somewhat like a dumbass.
I put a knife on my watch list on eBay, watching it with one price yesterday; in 10 minutes - BOOM - pricing goes up, and stock quantity not increased.
EDIT: spellcheck

I have been supportive of Spyderco pricing in this thread but I have to admit that I am having some sticker shock in seeing the cost of some base models. That doesn't even include BBS and their now $230 PM2.
Do right always. It will give you satisfaction in life.

BBS might be forced to come down on their prices to stay competitive. Having rare models wont necessarily be enough anymore, at least until the market stabilizes.
Re: Change in price of Spydercos in 2020?
It went up about $15 over the four or five years before that, as well, so that isn't a crazy prediction.

And in 2016 when there was no MAP a Delica could be had for under $60. When Knifeworks was selling them for $58 they used to be the knife I recommended to all the first time Spydie buyers. I stopped doing that as MAP started increasing. Now I won’t even buy myself a Delica anymore. I may make an exception when the K390 drops but after seeing the price of the S90V Delica I just don’t know for sure. No frn Delica is worth $120. That is nuts. I paid less than $120 (I think $112) for a S30V Para2 back in 2015 from KWs. Those were the days!

In 2012 I paid $85 for a brand new S30V Manix 2. Then again, I also remember paying less than $1 per gallon of gas, only 8 years before that. Now everyone sounds like a grumpy old man, talking about how cheap things used to be. :Dbearfacedkiller wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 9:21 amAnd in 2016 when there was no MAP a Delica could be had for under $60. Didn't that S90V Delica come out at the end of 2019 at that price? Has it gone up more, or was the new map price applied early? I haven't looked in a while.
Re: Change in price of Spydercos in 2020?
I understand that prices need to increase over time to support business models, but the jump in cost to the end user caused by this MAP change seems pretty steep to me. I can get behind an dollar or two here and there, but 7.7% will assuredly make many models less appealing to me. I'm not going to make any blanket statements regarding the number of knives I will or will not purchase going forward, but I imagine that I'll be much more selective in 2020..
An $84.00 base model Delica is a tough pill to swallow..

I never could wrap my head around MAP when it went into play with some of the major manufacturers and vendors. But I don’t run a knife business, so what do I know. The market is always the great equalizer. Folks will either stop buying or they will keep on as normal. It is interesting to me when some vendors have MAP hikes and others don’t. Maybe it depends on where they source their materials?

I just got home from taking myself, two teenagers, and two kids to the movies. With popcorn, a couple hot dogs, and two bottles of water, this 2-hour outing cost me $90! Kinda put an $84 Delica into perspective for me. Two hours of entertainment and snacks cost more than a well-made tool that'll last me decades if I care for it properly. Definitely price increases will make me a bit choosier when it comes to trying out models I'm not sure about, but paying for quality - and supporting an ethical business - is worth paying a bit extra for, imho.

Re: Change in price of Spydercos in 2020?
Ouch........Province jumps from $260 to $280
I love Spyderco, but that's a big bump in 1 year, imo.
I'll just have to score one on the secondary market
Dont get me wrong, still a good value.
I was hoping it would stay at $260 or at the most jump $5
Still.......Spydeeco, and who they are, it's still very much worth it.
I'll prolly just get a new one.

But I think we can agree that the food and beverages at a theater are very overpriced and we can get identical food and drinks elsewhere for a much lower price...
Re: Change in price of Spydercos in 2020?
As price sensitive as so many seem to be on this forum ... this price hike must be nothing less than atomic!!! Will be interesting to see how this plays out for Spyderco during 2020.JuPaul wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 4:27 pmI just got home from taking myself, two teenagers, and two kids to the movies. My 25+ Spyderco purchases in 2019 are today's discount pricing; glad I took the plunge last year and not this year!
I still see it as you do, but have to wonder about the masses.

Re: Change in price of Spydercos in 2020?
I can't deny that it stings a bit, but a 7.7% increase isn't a total deal-breaker for me. Let's say you bought $1000 worth of knives in 2019. Would you balk at paying $1077 for the same knives? I would not if I really enjoyed those knives. But some might. I hope Spyderco doesn't suffer as a result.cycleguy wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 6:05 pmAs price sensitive as so many seem to be on this forum ... this price hike must be nothing less than atomic!!!
