I began my Spydie journey in 2015. Since that time, MAP has gone from 40% to 35% to 30%. Utilities and food prices have increased and my salary has not moved an inch. Just means I will have to limit my "wants". Not a knock on Spyderco, just a reality for my situation.

The real truth for many!

PS - In addition to lower MAP discounts off MSRP there have been increases in MSRP since 2014.

On population, the U.S. population grew by only 0.48% in 2019 due to a drop in immigration and birth rates as well growth in death rates. It's part of a steady decline since 2015. Japan's population is in alarming decline since 2011 (very few new births). Many more developed countries will see declines between now and 2050 (world population will go from 7.6 billion to 9.4 billion) mostly due to low birth rates and emigration but some due to civil strife and wars. Africa's population is exploding with Nigeria alone going from the current 205 million to a whopping 402 million in 2050!

Interesting RE: BBS's shipping policy. Looks like BBS got your message and simply added the cost of shipping to the price, or maybe the price increase is the MAP change. Who can know?

I read something about that population explosion that they are talking about happening in parts of Africa in the future.

Also one of the problems in the more developed countries is that Women are waiting longer (Sometimes too long) and or not having children at all due to their careers. I think that has had the most effect on the population.

Most of the Women back when there were larger families didn't work and didn't have to so they started early having kids. Some started in their early to mid teens and had like 10-13 children. Big families were the norm back then.

Wowza! The Spyderco Waterway is jumping from $130 to $157.50 (https://www.bladehq.com/item--Spyderco- ... ife--78714). Looks like both MSRP and MAP are contributing to that 21% increase in price. Glad I just ordered one at the lower price!

So I guess its part of that 1%.
I ordered one new years eve... But it was out of stock, I better not be charged the increased price when its ready to ship.
I just kept talking about what an amazing deal the waterway is as well, now its just an ok deal.

Both Autonomys just jumped up to $203 on knife center. So thats a 5% map increase but msrp stayed the same. Waterway is still $130 there as of 2 minutes ago.

Everybody better scramble! Looks like all the old prices will soon be gone very soon.

And... the siren is now $168. Price went up before anybody even got one. Just 5% map, atleast msrp seems to have stayed the same. I was really hoping since this one wasnt available until this year it would have been grandfathered in at the original price. Oh well.

The Spyderco street prices have increased by 7.7% which is the result of the MAP discount going down from 35% to 30% without any changes in MSRP.

Correct.
7.7% on eBay for all Spydercos (at least the stores I'm buying Spydercos from).
Not sure what was Spydercos price increase in the previous years, but 1-10% yearly price increase is something I usually get in the business I work in (mostly 1-5%, I guess Spyderco didn't have any significant price increase during the past years, so now they have to compensate).

2018: 209.95, 136.47
2019: 216.00, 140.40
2020: 216.00, 151.20

Can’t say I’m impressed at all that a Delica is 110. W & W already charge a lot to start with.

A Delica is $110?? You mean a non-production one?

Wow ... that happened quick! Thought there would be a little time to slip in a couple more purchases before the hikes showed up at all the dealers.

Was planning to slow down on knife collecting this year anyways ... but higher prices and no increase in my annual income makes it no longer a choice. :( :spyder:

Realistically speaking my medium sized collection should easily last me a lifetime. Combine this with the prices increases, and it becomes really difficult to justify new purchases, especially in the $150+ price ranges. The effect of this is that I will continue to reduce new purchases, focus on lower cost, discontinued and discounted models. Except perhaps for a few really special sprints and exclusives.

Perhaps this explains Spyderco’s push for more affordable lightweight FRN models... I’m sure they’ve seen the trends.

Thanks. Great data. That’s a 20% increase in end-user pricing in just 3 years.

I got my Spyderco Chaparral Carbon Fiber C152CFP in 2013 (before MAP) for $99 shipped! It’s $140 now! That’s a 41% increase in about 6.5 years.

I'll say this, I agree with the efforts to bring more LWs like the sage 5 and the para 3 to the market. Seems like they're trying not to abandon full-featured tools at lower price points despite needing to raise MAP and sometimes MSRP.

With the increase I can't recommend a delica but I can recommend a Chap LW, etc.
EDC Rotation: PITS, Damasteel Urban, Shaman, Ikuchi, Amalgam, CruCarta Shaman, Sage 5 LW, Serrated Caribbean Sheepsfoot CQI, XHP Shaman, M4/Micarta Shaman, 15v Shaman
Fixed Blades: Proficient, Magnacut Mule
Special and Sentimental: Southard, Squarehead LW, Ouroboros, Calendar Para 3 LW, 40th Anniversary Native, Ti Native, Calendar Watu, Tanto PM2
Would like to own again: CQI Caribbean Sheepsfoot PE, Watu
Wishlist: Magnacut, Shaman Sprints!
