Well played, Shawn. Well played.

Spyderco junkies discovering that Maxamet is not the ultimate blade steel...

https://youtu.be/RWCvMwivrDk
Haha indeed.

Kinda tricky though, they can be pretty close to each other and would probably depend more on how they are sharpened and used more than anything.

Here is some Maxamet I just did for blade show.

Folding knife. Need something to kick the K390 Police 4 out of my pocket.

I read over the entire thread about a week ago, but I don’t recall whether this was stated or I just assumed - can anyone with a better memory than my own remind me whether this will be a folder or a fixed blade, so that I don’t have to read through the entire thing again?
Your video about that one talked a k390 pm2 into my pocket and now you’re gonna kick it out? Brutal 😂

Can’t wait though. Are you able to say anything about the clip configuration yet? I’m really hoping that if it’s not deep carry, it’ll have a screw pattern that allows for alternative clips.

I made another custom CPM 15v at 65.5rc
I was able to outcut s125v at 63rc and Maxamet at 70rc that had thinner Geometry
But was unable to match Rex121 at 70rc.
The test was with 3/4in Manilla rope.

The CPM 15V was tested with a thicker bte to mimic production geometries.

Wear resistance
1.Rex 121
2 CPM 15v
3. S125v
4 Maxamet

Hardness capability
1.Rex 121
2. Maxamet
3. 15v
4. S125v

Theoretical Edge Stability (dependant on heat treatment, processing and sharpening)
1.Maxamet

I actually think K390 has a great balance of properties. In my use it's been noticeably tougher than every other "super steel" (at least what we're calling "super" this week) blades except v4e.

I'm looking forward to trying 15v, and I still haven't gotten my hands on s125, but compared with Maxamet and Rex 121 (and s110v) K390 has a definite place in the line up.

I feel that pure strength overrides raw toughness in edge performance focused knives.

The K390 is some good stuff, I have a PM2 k390 in my pocket right now, my favorite spyder of 2019. It will be nice to see some 10v hopefully in 2020.

All the A11 class steels are at a really cool sweet spot between M4 and the super HSS and carbide bridge materials.

Well, stropped back like a champ after 100 cuts on 3/4 Manilla rope.

1um diamond Spray on leather.

Start 139g>>>288g BESS after 100 cuts with 7-8 slice per each cut using the belly of the blade.

8 passes on strop to 142g BESS.

Nice sticky aggressive edge.

Shawn is there any chance of DLC landing on this collaboration? My experience with 10v (PMA11) it does need maintenance, so I'm assuming 15v will be more so....

I'm eager either way just hint fishing ;)

DLC didn't seem to prevent rust which is interesting. Also it seems that DLC is difficult to get to stick to some steels. Stainless steels interestingly are easier to DLC.

I was looking into DLC for my Custom work but for these reasons I lost interest.

Lets see, 1950 degrees?

I started pulling back from my monitor out of habit when I first looked at that picture. I expected a wave of heat to hit my forehead for a quarter second or so. :D

Shawn, not sure if I will be able to buy your collab model (depend on price, but let´s be honest, it will not be cheap per say), but I really love your work.
Give that CPM 15V steel what she deserve and keep making knives out of her :D
