Next Pacific Salt

What do we know about the next Pacific salt? I know it is supposed to still be H1.

I hope what they do is keep the salt and pacific salt in H1 abut serrated only in H1 as P.E. in H1 is rather ahem small joke, Pointless.

In addition I would like to see the design offered in LC200N for plain edge and might as well SE it as well even though I prefer H1 Serrated.

Wonder if they have discovered how to FFG H1? If anyone can it will be team Spyderco.

I wouldn't call PE H1 a joke anymore than I'd call 420HC a joke. Both have similar edge retention in my experience.

We're a bunch of folks with a different set of standards than most. Some perspective:




I'd imagine we'll be seeing something like the Salt 2, but built around the Endura 4 shape of course.

I would not say skewed views but due to Spyderco egalitarian tastes.

Some folks will pay enormous amounts for a specific Scotch or wine. Others go for Jack and box O Wine.

Im under the impression that japanese salts will be h1, and non-japanese salts (with the exception of the autonomy) will be lc200n, and whatever else may come around in the future.

They could do a lc200n pacific salt, but Im sure the h1 isnt going anywhere.

Interesting thought. Personally I like good Sake.

We're in the process of making tooling for a Pacific Salt 2. It will be made with the same pattern as the Endura 4 (I know some people don't like the handle pattern but most do ). It will be made the same as the Salt 2 with no liners, just a internal FRN frame.

We will be using H1 in both plain edge and serrated edge. I know some don't like the edge retention of PE H1, but some do, including me because it gets very sharp. It just need to be sharpened more often, which I for one am willing to do. Easy peasy with a Sharp-maker. We have also worked with our Seki maker to use LC and I have an LC Pacific Salt PE that I've been using for 6 months and it's also very nice and hard enough. We do have plans for the future, as you might expect? There are also more things in-the-works that I cannot mention at this time. Thanx for your interest.

I for one preference the H1 in both edges, use Pacific Salts PE on the boat in the Tropics and it’s great to hear they are staying H1 in the PS2s

Sake pairs fantastically with sushi, and H1 pairs fantastically with Pacific Salts, PE and SE. Great news, great all around.

Well I, for one, am looking forward to the FFG LC200N SE and PE models of the Pacific and Salt 1. Although the Pacific still slices great as is, the Salt 1 would benefit greatly with FFG (or a higher grind - that would work too).

I think at this point you meant Salt 2.

A Pac Salt, but with an E4 instead of E3 handle will be even better for me personally! (Not that I wouldn´t like the current Pac Salt (E3) handle, but I am one of those who finds the E4 handle perfect ergonomicwise)

And if there´ll really be basically a linerless, ffg (LC 200N) Endura 4: Perfect! (and even better should there be an SE ffg version.. )

Not interested ... I dislike the E4 handle and I like H1 hollow grind serrations. I love my hollow grind SE Pac Salt so much that I bought 6 and the seventh is on the way.Enough said.

It will still come in H1 hollow grind SE as far as I understand. Just with the E4 instead of the E3 handle (which is great news for many, but certainly not for all).

Additionally there is hope for an ffg LC200N version. Again, just as far as I understand.

I like the E4’s texture better, but the Pacific feels a bit better. I don’t like the hollow handle with ribs all that much. Also, I like the barrel bolt a lot better. Oh well. I’ll live.

I love the E4 handle so I'm especially excited about the Salt 1 style coming to the new Pacific. The Salt 1 is a little lighter and doesn't feel like it loses much, if anything, by being linerless over the D4.

And with respect to PE H1 edge holding, I've posted this before but here's my PacSalt after cutting ~200 feet (took about 30 minutes!) of thick, gritty bike-box cardboard. Still cut well enough, and it would barely shave with some moderate pressure. Touch up back to hair-poppin' sharp was 1-2 minutes on my 11" Norton fine. Really a great steel that has come to be much more appreciated by afis over the years.



I think I've got a half-dozen Pacifics at this point. It was my first Spyderco back 15+ years ago and remains my favorite folder. Excited to make it a full dozen between the new H1 and LC200N models :cool:
