I've been carrying and using it for normal cutting, but I haven't had a chance to really test it yet. When I do, I may try to make a video of it. Last night, I cut open a 20lb of cat food with the hawkbill and was not disappointed. The factory edge is quite toothy and the point is super fine. I'm definitely liking it so far!

In regards to ergonomics, I see no issues so far. While I generally prefer to not have a 50/50 choil on lager knives (>3.5"), I love having them on smaller knives such as the Byrd Hawkbill and my wife's Native 5.

Starting the new year off with the Byrd Hawkbill. I've been carrying it for a few days and I see the appeal of the blade shape, but I'm not 100% convinced it's my ideal shape for normal cutting tasks. It's definitely a blast to use!

I've been pleased so far. In regards to normal, everyday (man-made) materials, serrations have been making alot of sense to me. I've even used my SE pocket knives in the kitchen for small tasks without any real issue.

I suppose one thing to consider, being that serrated blades have chisel ground edges, they will not cut straight unless you learn how to compensate by holding the blade at the correct angle. After using only SE for the past couple weeks, that's a total non-issue for me now.

One thing that I don't miss is having the material-to-be-cut slide off the blade during the cut. Haven't had that problem once since using SE, and it's nearly impossible with the Hawkbill! :)

Good luck with your Salt 2! Are you carrying it exclusively for any specific amount of time?

I've been carrying it since I got it, it's gonna be 2 years now. Now and then I use a PE Salt Dragonfly or a Saber Ground ZDP-189 Delica but I'd say 95% of the time the Salt 2 is in my pocket.

I don't have a strong stance on the looks of SE. However, one knife I can only ever imagine having in SE is the Shaman. Aesthetically, that's one of Spyderco's best, and somehow, the SE really sets it apart, IMO.

The original stainless Police looks naked without SE.

I like SE, and I find them easy to sharpen after carrying serrations for the last couple months, but repairing an tooth that gets badly damaged is exponentially more difficult than repairing a plain edge. I’m going to have to send my SE Caribbean in because one of the teeth got folded over 180 degrees against the back of the blade, and I can’t fix it without completely flattening off the serrations. Similar levels of damage on a PE I could fix in an hour, tops.

Yikes! I'd be curious if it could be bent back without issue. I figured it would break before bending that far.

Yeah this needs to be told! LC200n must be crazy tough if a tooth wont break being bent that far.
