Black is fine by my standards.

I guess I should be more specific; scheduled to begin production in May, probably won't be delivered until late summer.

If the demand is there, we'll go to FRN scales and that will make colors a better option.

I get excited for a lot of knives from Spyderco, but this is one that I am not only excited for but will carry daily. I've long thought about what a perfect small EDC fixed blade would be for me, and the new Swick 5 checks most of the boxes. And though I am okay with S30V, I never pulled the trigger on a Swick before. Now that it will be in LC200N it is a must-have for me. I mostly had it in mind for utilitarian use, but Sal's comments about its usefulness for self-defense, and the functionality of the ring in that use, really have me thinking I may get one for my wife too to serve that purpose. I just need to talk her into being comfortable carrying a knife now! Glad Sal and the team at Spyderco put out blades like this with protection in mind, especially for the ladies.

I'm looking forward to the Swick 5 in LC200N (my favorite steel).

Are there any plans to make a trainer for it?

Hi Jstn,

Welcome to our forum.

Takuan,

I have a trainer prototype. We'll have to decide. If trainers are to be the same as Live blades, they become expensive. Then sales are poor. Mike has suggested making inexpensive aluminum trainers with no sheath? It's also a possibility.

Thank you, sir! Aluminum trainers with no sheath would be a good start, I think. If they fit in the standard sheath that comes with the Swick 5/6, then we could set the live blade aside and use its sheath to practice drawing and weapon retention. (Though I’m not sure what the extra thickness around the edge would do to disrupt the molded sheath fit.) Most people in the martial arts and self-defense community are used to using aluminum trainers, so I think we’d be satisfied.

Hi Takuan,

Trainers won't fit live blade sheaths.

Thanks for confirming that. All of my Spyderco trainers are folders and all of my fixed blade trainers (non-Spyderco) are sheathless, so I was speculating. Perhaps a trial run aluminum trainer with no scales could be produced at first with a fancier stainless model (possibly with scales) to follow if the knife sells well. In any case, thanks very much for considering it.

Thank you for the update, and for such a fast response Sal. Whenever they release I will be buying at least 3 or 4.

Like I said when these were announced, if I could pick any Spyderco to bring back in any steel I want, an LC200N Swick would be in my top 3. I'm so happy these are coming back, especially with factory scales and sheaths.

Looks like this last question posted 1 year ago. I see it’s still unavailable?

Here's a more up to date thread on the Swick:
