Yup... that was me. I'm not crazy about H1 in plain edge, but I would have to go with H1 in SE on a Lil' Matriach. I will also say that toughness is important. I haven't done any heavy use with my VG-10 Lil' Matriach, but somehow a little chip is missing from the tip.
H1 all the way for this one. The toughness of H1 is key if you’re going to use the li Matriarch for edc. I’d love to see it in both pe and se but the se is the one that would get the hard use on the kayak.
I agree. This blade shape and that tip need something like H1. H1 SE Salt is the perfect form for this model. Orange FRN would be great to match the Spyderhawk. I'll definitely be in for a few.
CRU-CARTA THE SEKI MODELS! AND BRING US THE DODO-FLY!
I also get that chopping a coconut is a whole different world than a folder will probably ever see. I wonder if you could baton a H1 folder through a fresh coconut without damaging the edge?
I think part of the issue with the Rock Salt vs. Coconut was that I hit it pretty hard at a glancing blow (not straight on)… A more controlled strike would probably have been fine.
Can we all just agree that anything that's offered in SE should at least come in H1? I'd even be ok if the whole knife wasn't full on "Salt" but of course I'd be happy if it were.

Agreed. I'd be fine with a PE or SE Lil' Matriarch in LC200N as well (LC200N probably preferred for PE), but in SE my preference is H1. Someone could always set up a poll asking:
Select your one steel preference for SE and PE (2 responses)
PE Lil' Matriarch in LC200N
PE Lil' Matriarch in H1
SE Lil' Matriarch in LC200N
SE Lil' Matriarch in H1

I’m wondering if it might actually sell better as a Salt than as a non-Salt model, since “Salt” has “utility” (as opposed to “weapon”) written all over it.

I can hear the lawyer now "the perpetrator chose a rust proof knife because he wanted the edge to stay sharp in salt water for better killing efficiency".

If the handle is bright yellow (or some other bright color), that *might* help offset such a possibility. Spyderco could put in its description of the Lil Matriarch Salt its use as a rope cutter with greater potential versatility in use over a standard hawkbill. Of course, regardless of handle color people will see it as a weapon, but IMO it would work (and probably sell) better as a full Salt.

I agree. I would also agree with evil D that H1 would be the obvious choice for at least the Serrated version. There are few bigger advocates of plain edge lc200n than me. Heck, I Requested the steel for my design because it performs so much better than H1 for me in PE. H1 still reins supreme for SE though and it’s toughness is in a completely different league than Lc200n. Maybe a pe lc200n sprint you go with it? Haha. I’m just glad we are having the discussion at all and I will buy multiples regardless of the steel choice!
