A couple more of my favorite Beatles songs (which were also never over-played on the radio like many of their other songs). In general, the songs sung by John Lennon were my favorites. He always sang perfectly in key. Oddly enough, John Lennon supposedly hated the sound of his own voice.

The BEATLES final album "Let IT BE" was a real let down IMO. When it comes to the so-called British Invasion I always found it quite interesting that the BEATLES have gotten so much fanfare over the year whereas the Rolling Stones are still going strong and have never gotten the accolades that the BEATLES have attained.

The BEATLES final album "Let IT BE" was a real let down IMO. When it comes to the so-called British Invasion I always found it quite interesting that the BEATLES have gotten so much fanfare over the year whereas the Rolling Stones are still going strong and have never gotten the accolades that the BEATLES have attained.

IMO, although the Beatles were only together for about a decade and the Stones are still active as a group, I believe the Beatles packed more into those few years than the Stones did up to today. A matter of quality vs quantity, (again, IMO). The different ways they evolved in such a short time, with so much good material, was astounding. TBH, I haven’t seen any other band who evolved to that degree in that time, with that number of songs as hits (virtually all of them). And even their so-called “lesser” songs were great. The only “Beatles” song I feel is “meh” is that post-Beatles song released in 1994, Free as a Bird. Admittedly, had the Beatles stayed together, they probably wouldn’t have held up as well as Mick Jagger and the Stones, because they packed all of their evolution as a group into those 10 years. It was simply time to move on. Although the lastI saw of Ringo a few years back, he appeared to be in darned good shape.

My favorite Beatles albums were the White Album and Rubber Soul. But IMO all of them were good, except for Yellow Submarine, much of which wasn’t even really Beatles songs but soundtrack music. The couple actual Beatles songs on it are pretty decent, though. I like the Beatles’ older stuff as well as their later stuff, because the early stuff was among the first music and songs I ever heard from a toddler on up, and they evoke memories of those times. My brother also owned Stones records, and although I liked Jumpin’ Jack Flash as a kid, I’ve always felt mixed about their other stuff.

Yep, Couldn’t Get It Right is a great song. Don’t worry, I used to think they were American, too. :) I also used to think that The Average White Band (who were Scottish) were American.

Back when I was a young kid in the 1960s there was a TV show on in the afternoons after school that was out hosted by Dick Clark and it was called "Where The Action Is" and it was on the ABC network. He had Paul Revere & The Raiders on several times on that show and for the time they were actually pretty good for 1960s type stuff.

Also that show is where Dick Clark literally discovered the awesome talent of "Little Stevie Wonder". They later dropped that title and just called him Stevie Wonder>>> When I first saw the Rolling Stones on their 1972 tour here in Kansas City they had Stevie Wonder as their back up act for the Rolling Stones concert. Seeing Stevie Wonder in person was awesome. He truly got a standing ovation before the Rolling Stones took the stage >> which I thought was interesting because most of that crowd were big into hard rock music. But he was so talented he even got everyone's respect that evening.

There's an argument to be made that Dick Clark and Ed Sullivan brought about the music revolution of the 60s and 70s.

I think you’re right about Dick Clark and EdSullivan. I would also add Don Cornelius into that group for ‘70s music.

TBH, I had forgotten about that particular Paul Revere and The Raiders song until I heard it in that new Tarantino movie. In our house, my older siblings always had the radio on. That’s one of the songs in that movie that I hadn’t heard in decades, probably since I was in kindergarten in ‘68/‘69. IIRC, by that time, not many of the songs from just a few years earlier were still playing on the radio anymore, as tastes had changed.

Stevie Wonder was and still is awesome.

From Ben Shapiro to Haydn to Debussy to the Beatles, Stones, Sam Cooke... oh my, what a wonderful mix. Doesn’t surprise me with such a passionate group.

For me? I listen to different music at different times of the day. Classical in the morning, then on to other sounds throughout the day. Lately, it’s been The Necks. Favorite? “Drive By”. (Caution, don’t listen unless you can really sit down and LISTEN... one hour, in this case, but for those who tune in, it’s a brilliant composition.)
