Post by green grunt »

Hi All , new guy.... spend a lot of time on CalGuns and saw this site in reference , nice.... I have a few Spyderco's and a daily user also.... I'll have a good time looking around and enjoying this site...

and here is a question... how do you find out info on knives that are stamped with a # on the blade(Bob Lum #676 C46PS) picked up a few at a estate sale.

Thanks.

Hi Green grunt.

Welcome to our forum. Thanx for your service.

The number is the collector number. We have customers that get one of everything with their number engraved on the blade.

Were there ever 676 members of the collector's club? I thought i heard there were "only" 200 slots open.

Not 100% sure about that one. But it seems like I've had a couple over the years with a collector number higher than 200. I'm going to my storage unit this weekend and I'll see if anything in my footlocker has a high collector number on it. I think that was the case of only 200 collector numbers back around 2000 to 2003 or thereabout but I'm almost sure that there are many more people in the collector club than that now a days. I've recently chatted with a couple of non-Spyderco collectors that had been in that club at one time over the years. But again I'm not 100% for sure either.

Some of the older models came individually numbered. I have several with numbers in the 500s, 600s, and 700s. I think these preceded the Collector's Club, but would like to know more about why this was apparently done and then abandoned.

I've seen some of the oldest models with collector numbers. I'm pretty sure some knives were just done in numbered runs, but i don't think it predates the collector club. There was a guy on facebook selling an entire collection from one collector that included many of the pre C-SKU experimental knives.

Larry_Mott, I think you are right, I never heard from such a high CC-number.

As others have noted, iIt's not a CC#. Up until the early 2000's the entire first run of collaboration models, like the Lum, were numbered.
