Want to own some older Spyderco's
Want to own some older Spyderco's
Hi to all at this Forum,
My name is Robert and i work for an internetfirm called http://www.knivesandtoolsonline in Holland
Recently i discovered that our Spyderco-supplier over here is sitting on almost 20 full-size Dyads, yes with the Micarta handle.
Now i am aware that spydies are much more expensive in Holland than in the US, but if someone is interested in one of these drop me a mail, maybe we can work something out.
Also several older Calypso Jr with micarta and AUS8 available as well as some of the Spyderco/Timberline collaborations in stainless with tanto-points.
I even think there is more for me to discover at his place, so i will keep my eyes open.
I collect Spydies myself also but all this candy is too much for me so i want too share if possible. :)

To wouter: i think you did not read my post correctly.
I am a collector just as you and most people around here and i happen to work in an internetstore.
This gives me the opportunity to sometimes see more than a normal collector.
I happen to stumble across some nice spydies which are lying around useless to anyone and this could be a good medium to spread the word.
This is not about making money, a couple of dyads for a big discount is not doing us any good, financially spoken.
Most of our profit is made by selling kitchen-knives and at this we do quite allright.
If i was looking for a particular old spydie, and somebody with the right connections offered me a possibility to buy it at a discount i would be quite pleased.
You personally may not like it, but i choose to use this place to give a fellow spydie-collector the opportunity to get the classic he or she wants.

hi kwak.
it's very kind of you to want to help spydie collectors acquire a few hard-to-finds... but, grievously, this forum isn't the right place to do it. please read the guidelines. they're in place to protect spyderco from being or seeming reponsible for person-to-person trades gone wrong, and to improve the general atmosphere of the forum.

And you deserve to get flamed! Kwak may have overlooked the guidelines for this Forum, but after reading the posts above, you chose to purposely ignore the guidelines that you agreed to follow when you registered. That shows nothing but flagrant disrespect for our hosts here!!!

Just in case you missed it, less than 2 weeks ago Joyce posted this in regards to the question of trades or sales on this site.
We definitely encourage forumites to sell/trade with each other]we just ask they do it via PM or off the site. Thanks.
Joyce @ Spyderco[/color]
It's not a question of legality. It's a question of integrity and respect - Who has it and who doesn't?

I agree with 4 s ter about the respect and integrity. PM is the way to go. However, if there are problems with PM as some forumites are reporting, then is it not okay to ask kwak to PM any interested parties?
First they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not stand up, because I was not a Trade Unionist.

You knew you were doing something that was against the guidelines of this Forum. Remember typing "...i suppose ill get flamed for this..." Sorry, but none of this is my fault. I just called you on something you knew upfront you shouldn't be doing - but did anyway.

4ster I didn't think I was doing anything wrong but I thought I'd be flamed by someone like you just like I was. I am trying to do this off the forum per the guidelines, that even you just posted yourself, so what am I doing wrong? As for Swede perhaps u should think before u post, vulgarity is often a mask for low intelligence.

I believe there is something in the rules about swearing as well. Self censoring or not the intention of the word is still clear. Is it so hard to just choose another word that has the same meaning and intensity?swede wrote:You new folks are full of s**t. I've posted here for a few years, and I also sell on ebay. I understand the difference. Read the rules or shut up.

It's very simple. When PM and email didn't work for you, you brought your transaction into the Forum.
Neither the guidelines nor Joyce's post say that you can use this Forum to buy, sell or trade if other methods don't work. The fact that you tried to keep it out of the Forum doesn't give you the right to then ignore the Forum guidelines.
I think my posts to you in this thread have been polite and civil. I would like to suggest that comments like "ur good ol boys club" and "i wont stoop to ur level" and "ull be happy to know uve achieved ur goal in making more new members to the forum feel uncomfortable" are uncalled for. This has nothing to do with post count and everything to do with abiding by the Forum guidelines.
I don't understand why you still can't see anything wrong with what you did. I guess we'll have to leave it up to the moderators to judge who's in the right.

I asked him to email me how did i do wrong? and go back and look at the thread u proved my comment on post count when u jumped me for it then nicky posted and has way more posts than me and u simply showed him a recent post why didnt you do that for me? well two reasons come to mind the first being that i was trying to contact him through pm and email and simply asked him to email me so that post showed i did nothing wrong and the second being you seem to like to harrass the newer members like u have some sort of superiority to go along with your post count. i posted, if im wrong the mods will do something about it. honestly i think this whole thread should b deleted it is nothing but one giant flame. i do have a question for you though how is this thread any different than one telling everyone about an anniversary delica on ebay or where you can find the spyker or a frn cricket? its still advertising a sale so i dont quite see the difference? anyways im done for the night so everyone have a great night.

This does somewhat present a dilemma. These things are supposed to be done (according to Joyce) off forum or via PM. However, how is a person to know if a fellow forumite has a piece for sale if it isn’t first posted in the forum? And if (as in this case) you know someone has something for sale that you want but cannot contact him or her through other means, what are you to do.
First question:
If I were to know that 4 s ter was looking for say a PE Harpy and I had one for sale, I would PM him. That way we are both within the rules of the forum. Or if 4 s ter somehow knew through the grapevine that I had something he wanted, he could then PM me. Still within the rules.
Second question:
Someone has come onto the forum and (against the rules) offered something for sale that I want. The proper thing to do is politely advise him that doing so is a violation of said rules and suggest BFC or another avenue that does allow such things. Then go to BFC and make my play for it.
I don’t know if the moderators would consider it a rule violation if I were to (as a result of the offending post) then PM that person with an offer. No matter what the moderators would think, doing so is still unethical. It is unethical because the transaction was initiated with a rule infraction. It’s like saying “I know this money I found was stolen from the bank last night, but since I didn’t personally steal it can I please keep it?” Its still stolen money and it isn’t yours.
Just because you or I or anybody else wants something we cannot gain through proper means doesn’t mean it’s okay to do so through improper means. Sometimes doing what is right means we ‘miss out’. That’s part of being a grown-up.
When Vinny vandalized a bus the fact that the part of the bus he vandalized should have long been junked long ago didn’t make it okay for him to vandalized it (Vinny: if you don’t want me using you as an example let me know and I’ll remove it). The same goes for here. If you have to rationalize why it’s okay, it probably isn’t.
In other words: if you can’t do it off forum or via PM, then don’t do it.
