Change Caribbean Scales to Rastafarian colors?
Change Caribbean Scales to Rastafarian colors?
What do you think? Since Rastafarian colors are Jamaican/Caribbean in origin, would this be very fitting/appropriate for the model and possibly expand the market for this knife, the salt series, and spyderco in general? I think the colors would get the attention of people who aren't into high end pocket knives.
Aesthetically, would you view this as an upgrade, and would you be more interested in buying the model?

Re: Change Caribbean Scales to Rastafarian colors?
Might be a cool exclusive for some people, but not my thing. I have a bunch of Reef flip flops and I rarely wear the ones with the rasta colored straps. I'd rather see them switch to good old peel ply G10 slabs in semi-translucent day glow yellow with no milling.

Big negative for me. I'd rather it were all black or even solid yellow.

I'd prefer that to yellow if the price didn't increase more than a few bucks. I'd leave them as is too, no dye job.

I'd prefer a switch to blue from yellow vs. the colors of the Jamaican flag. Maybe something bright like this:

Voted YES because I think it would look awesome! Personally, I would love to see it with rasta colors but I’m aware that it might not appeal to the general public.
As suggested, it could be a great sprint run or exclusive for someone! I’ve yet to buy a Caribbean but when I do I’m going to seriously consider giving this a try with RIT dye!

It wasn't about marijuana, but I'll admit, I did feel a few random stoners may suddenly take up an interest in knives if this change were to take place. As well as many people from the Caribbean in general, people who like reggae music, etc.
I think the proposal is objectively relevant. But I also wonder if the people who voted no absolutely love having a knife named the Caribbean that looks like a bumblebee. And on that same token, who REALLY thinks a knife named the Caribbean should be one color? What is the meaning behind the name if it doesn't reflect the Caribbean people?

Re: Change Caribbean Scales to Rastafarian colors?
I don’t have a Caribbean yet but I love black and yellow. As an old school Yamaha fan it is my favorite combo. I even painted my Jeep black and yellow. Whenever I get around to painting my Suzuki Samurai it will probably be yellow and black as well.

Re: Change Caribbean Scales to Rastafarian colors?
Is that why you don't like a certain color iteration? Historically, marijuana has always been heavily illegal in Jamaica. Despite the laws now which changed in 2015, it's still not smart to smoke there. Far from a stoner's paradise. I won't even go into what can happen to you if you try.
America's general conception of this is obviously way off.
Re: Change Caribbean Scales to Rastafarian colors?
Well, I was just being silly. But as you seem seriously interested, I wonder about the technical challenge of bringing those two extra colors to the surface. I suppose it could be done by varying the depths but the overall intended effect might become such a melange as to be overlooked.Pelagic wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2019 12:34 pmIt wasn't about marijuana, but I'll admit, I did feel a few random stoners may suddenly take up an interest in knives if this change were to take place. The so-called bumble-bee effect works (or doesn’t for some) because of the stark yellow and black contrast. BTW, I took these colors not as representative of Caribbean peoples but of current Salt handle choices. Salts and the Caribbean go hand-in-hand, no?
