Lil Native Flytanium scales

#1

Post by Bdubs808 »

Check out these Flytanium aftermarket scales for the Lil' Native.
Image
I was looking for some Manix scales but couldn't resist upgrading my Lil' Native; since I'm waiting for a Sprint to come out (S90V and CF!?)
Will post some pics when these arrive and get installed.

Looks like Flytanium makes titanium Yojimbo scales too, by the way.

It took me a while to realize that he posted it on IG, I'm too lazy to ever login there. I see he also installed a RGT clip too, and it looks pretty sweet.

Can’t wait to see it! I’m holding out for a CF/S90V as well, but good to know I now have fall back scales for my S30V.

Does that complexity decrease the simplicity? Not at all.

Any chance you could post a pic of the knife folded to show the thickness of the scales?

If they had brass ones for a lockback I'd probably buy one and use it as a desk drawer/letter opener knife. Maybe in the future.

Wow, that's awesome Radioactive. I'm going to have to repurchase the Lil Native to copy this configuration! Pretty sure I have an RGT clip lying dormant somewhere too, just waiting for this opportunity.

General question about Flytanium scales: are the pivot holes D-shaped? From what I have seen so far, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Wow! I hope they do more small knives. The Ti on the PM2 was too heavy for my tastes, but this looks perfect.

Scales look fantastic Radioactive! How's the action?

I installed the Flytanium Ti scale on my Brouwer.. I find the action to be acceptable, but not quite as smooth as with the original scale. I know it's kind of an apples to oranges thing here with the Brouwer vs. Lil Native, but I'd be interested in your thoughts on the overall fit&finish of the installed Flytanium scales before giving too much consideration to putting them on my Lil Native..

Hi everyone, sorry for posting pics and no commentary on these - work has been taking all my fun time recently. I’m actually carrying this little guy on a business trip this week and it’s been great! The Ti scales really bump the Lil Native into a higher class and I’ve had no complaints so far. Fit and finish is spot on and the action of the knife seems fine, although I did tighten it all down a bit more than usual to ensure no screws came loose while I was away from my Torx drivers.

I also had a Ti PM2 set from Flytanium and sold it off a while back, and these seem equally well made. Thickness-wise, they’re the same as the stock scales SG88 :). One thing that I really liked about these was the super ease of installation - I definitely did not have to take the whole knife apart. I simply removed the clip and the barrel bolt holding it in the lanyard tube, but did NOT remove the lanyard tube. I then simply unscrewed the pivot and body screws from one side at a time, installed one scale, and put the screws back in. I then did this to the other side (so in between this, it was half Ti and half G10 for a minute!), replaced the scale and screws and then put the clip back on.

The Ripps clip proved to be a bit more challenging as it didn’t really want to sit down in the clip grooves. It took some effort between actually pushing the two clip slots into the grooves, plus using the clip screw to cinch it completely down. If I were to take the clip screw off, I’m sure it would take some effort to pop the clip back out since it’s really locked in there. Everything works perfectly but that part of the job was not nearly as easy as replacing the scales themselves. If you use the stock wire clip, I don’t imagine there’d be any issues but you’ve got to admit how nice that Ripps clip matches! :D

I’ve seen a brass one done up on IG and that also looked great. I chose to go with Ti because I really prefer that metal over copper and brass, and I’m sure Sal has a CF S90V one on deck for 2020 (not a bombshell from him, just my hunch) so I didn’t choose the Flytanium CF ones - although they look super nice! Hope that helps answer a few questions! If you’re on the fence, I’d say go for it, you won’t be disappointed! Cheers, Radioactive
