Spyder Holes from Factory Outlet

#1

Post by gibs0n »

Hi Sal and Kristi,

My family visited the factory and store yesterday (vacationing in Colorado from Texas) and Michael in the store gave my kids some really cool Spyder holes (the punch outs from the blades).

My son, ever more curious than me, wondered if these are from a particular model or steel?

I assured him ya’ll were unlikely to know but they were from something made in Golden. But I promised to asked (we were so in awe at the store we forgot to ask Michael).

Thanks!

PS: also just to let you all know Michael was wonderful and great with my kiddos. They had a blast even though dad didn’t let them buy any knives! :)

The crew at the Factory Outlet is always very friendly and accommodating when I’m there. Glad to hear you and your family had a good experience!

Last year when I was there I was also lucky enough to receive a spyder hole cutout! I was told it was S35VN from the old S35VN Native 5. Can’t confirm this but it seemed believable enough. :)

It would be cool to engrave a bug on one and make it a pendant. I’ll take two!

It's probably impossible but I always thought it would be super cool to have the actual holes that come out of the knife you buy.

That'd would be awesome for damascus models!
But it sounds like a logistical nightmare :p

I'm still hoping for a production version of Sal's pendant...

I have a couple I received from Kristi when I won the swag contest a couple years ago. I put one in my little sticker display case

It is like the Spyderco equivalent to a donut hole.

Exactly, and it helps us sidestep any debates about the definition of a hole.

I would even settle for one out of however many thousands are made if I just knew the hole came from that model knife.

I reckon that would be feasible :)
At least for some of the models made locally as a test to see if enough people would be interested in the concept.

And yeah, drilling a hole into an H1 cutout and engraving a bug on it to sell them as pendants would definitely work IMO!
Add one of those generic ball necklaces used for stuff like dogtags and you've got a product!
Plenty of fans who would pick something like that up at a low price point as gifts or collectibles in different sizes :D
I'd be in the market for a Spyderco necklace!

This made me think of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Instead of a golden ticket hidden in a chocolate bar, a Spyder etched cutout.

Rather than a tour of the Spyderco factory, how about something truely epic, like a lifetime collectors club membership.

One time only. One cutout, one prize, never to be repeated.

Can you imagine opening up a new knife to find that bad boy?!

They could put satin ones in every knife of a certain run then have a few that are dlc coated gold like the SG2 Delica back spacer lol I'm sure they could throw in a few of those next time they do a run
