Outstanding Ergos (Spydiechef)

Just recieved my new Spydiechef. My straight out of the box hot take on the knife is this....

1. Great ergos. Fits perfect in hand for thumb or index finger on the spine of the blade. This may dethrone the Shaman for best ergos (too early to say). Love how thin the handle is too, great weight.

2. Black hardware looks good.

3. I'm still not a huge fan of Liner/Frame locks

4. The angle of the pocket clip is annoying, I feel like I'd rather have the lanyard hole in a different spot or no lanyard hole and have better pocket clip placement.

5. I can tell I'm going to like this knife a lot, I expect it will see heavy use.

I usually take my knife out of my sweatpants pocket when I work out so the liners don't get all sweaty. The spydiechef rides so light in the pocket I forgot it was there. So after my work out I found a sweaty spyderchef in my pocket, then realized it didn't matter :D It's a Salt!

I'm really liking this knife, and as I said in the last post the ergos are just outstanding, fits my hand perfectly.

Wish I had one of the new ones. I've got one from the first run. Still love it though.

I think it is one of the best knives of Spyderco. It excels at cutting food imho. The ergos are great for it. The LC200N steel is easy to sharpen and holds an edge quite well. Some say the steel is even stainless and cannot rust. :eek:
Maybe I will buy a backup for my backup. Is it only the black hardware that differs or is also the issue of the lockstick solved?

I've been carrying my new spydiechef for most of today (after carrying my shaman to the barn early this morning to re-wrap my horse's injured hoof). Not sure if I think the ergos can beat the shaman's, which feel awesome even in my smaller hands, but I agree with you they're still surprisingly great for a kind of boxy looking handle. I'm with you on the frame lock, too - it'll just never be my favorite lock, but I deal with it on my titanium knives and on most flippers. I also like the black hardware and with the medium gray scales and the lighter wire clip, it kindof has a cool tri-tone effect. So far, I really enjoy it and I'm just about to prep dinner with it. :p

I love nearly everything about the SpydieChef, including the clip placement. I just got a Kapara thinking I'd like the grip comfort more than the SpydieChef's, but I'm not sure that's true. The chamfered edges and tall scales of the SpydieChef work really well in my hand, and the Kapara though thicker and more rounded is also pretty skinny, which doesn't work great for me. I like the Chef's frame lock design, especially with that huge cutout for lockbar access. I wish more knives took this approach. It's definitely one of the easiest to disengage of all my frame locks and liner locks.

I'm a big fan of knives with an almost flat sine wave shape, it was one of the things I loved about some of Emersons designs when I used to collect those. The spydiechef has definitely got that going on. Gets the blade on what you want to cut and keeps your knuckles out of the way. Great for working on flat surfaces, but great in general.
