I'd rather see Spyder continue the evolution of the GB line while keeping the same general lines and blade length. I'd also like to see the Advocate evolve. It's a great design that got off to a rocky start. I think a little makeover could really help this model take off.

Hope Spyderco doesn't walk away from the GB2 or Advocate.

I've been intrigued by this modded GB1 ever since I saw it:



(Apologies: I didn't record the name of the person who did this and whose photo this is, when I copied the pic from a forum post a few years ago.)

Apparently the guy who did the mod wanted a discreet, high quality steak knife and eating utensil, he could use in public places, without having to rely on the dull knives often provided in restaurants, diners and cafes.

The back of the handle has also been ground down, so it's more comfortable when sitting down.

I've been on the lookout for a GB with a broken tip, so I can make a similar 'steak knife'.

You would have to abuse the **** out of a GB1 to break the tip. Beast of a knife in my book

Ha ha, yeah true that, Standy. Probably explains why I haven’t been able to score one yet.

I did see a wanted ad on Australian Blade Forums a couple of weeks ago from someone looking for a new one, because they’d snapped the tip on their GB1 workhorse.

I got in touch, but he’d already passed it onto a mate with a grinder to have a go at fixing.

I thought the same thing as you, so I couldn’t resist asking how he did it.

Apparently it was through torquing and prying, trying to get a knot out of some wood, ‘not being careful’.

I agree, it’s a great knife, an all time classic. It’s what I grab when I know there’s a tough job, that I should probably use a fixed blade for.

I love my Air, and now that the edge has receded more than halfway up to the Spyder hole, I probably want a replacement Air even more than I want the Swayback. And that's sayin' somethin'.

We can't have a GB thread without me completely agreeing with you. And I can't imagine what you would be doing with the tip of one to break it, unless you were just trying to break it.

Sorry, I should have explained it better Gullwing - I pinched that pic from a post I saw a few years ago of someone else's GB1 mod.

Yeah that top knife looks great - I think it's a stock GB1 for reference purposes, though.

The guy's modded 'Bradley Steak Knife' is the second knife.

Yeah, I agree. I enjoy the needle tips on a lot of Spydie knives, but the GB1 always gives such a solid feeling of confidence with that great reinforced tip design - the way that cool swedge acts like the top of an I-beam. I never worry about mine breaking - but I don't pry with knives anyway.
(Well except for using the Pac Salt to prise shellfish off rocks, but that's another story.)

As long as we're wishing for Gayle Bradley's... A 3.25-3.5" Air would be an amazing knife. With a wire clip, of course. :D

Probably the one knife I wish I had of carried when things get tough. :D

Been carrying the Junction in the 4x4 lately ( no issues in the NT with that ) so have tough stuff covered.

Here's mine on top of my favorite bench stone/plate. The blade length is 3.1 inch.

After reading this thread I went and looked at the Gail Bradley 1 and it struck me funny how much the blade reminded me of the stretch but with a hollow grind.

Thinking of getting a Gayle Bradley 2 on the secondary market unless a retailer has one ( a little helpnhere guys) but as I recall there were some issues but do not recall them.

Hope the one he is working on is longer rather than shorter. Thanks for the update Sal will keep an eye out for this one.
