Micarta Putman scales at DLT

#1

Post by JuPaul »

Not sure about anyone else, but I've been looking for these for a long time and they're never in stock (at least for the models I want). Anyhow DLT has them now for the manix 2, the para 3, pm2, and for the smock. They also got some g10 versions. These will be my first custom scale purchases ever...love that micarta!

Love me some micarta as well. Smock micarta incoming...
I hope the micarta shaman sells well, and micarta becomes a new standard option. Benchmade recently had a limited edition with python micarta - and chatter is that many people bought that one just for the micarta scales.

I don't like the look of the micarta on the smock.

Same here, just looked. The CF scales that come with it are much better imo.

Yeah I was on the fence about that, too. Not sure micarta fits the smock, but I'm gonna try it. I really wanted the manix 2 micarta to replace the smooth g10 on my KC cruwear manix. I like the look of the smooth g10, but I need more grip to comfortably operate the bbl with my small hands.

I wish I saw those for the Manix if they were available last month! Granted, I love my CF scales on my Cruwear...but those cost me $100

Yeah the price isn't bad on these for nice micarta scales. It still hurt me a little to spend more money on a $130+ knife, but a cruwear micarta manix was worth it to me in the end.

Will do. Knowing DLT's super fast shipping, it shouldn't be long!

I'd love to see micarta as a more frequent scale choice, too, even just in more folder sprints and fixed blades. Based on the interest on here, I'd say that crucarta shaman will be a huge hit unless it's super high priced. Same with the rosewood rex45 that was just mentioned in another thread.

Guess my tastes are not too popular. :(
I have no issues with CF -including laminate. And the Taichung CF looks really good. But for some reason, none of these knives has become a daily user or favorite (GB1, GB2, sage1, sage 5, chap, rhino, and lately sliverax). The tactile feel is a bit off for me. Hoping the micarta changes that - because I really like the Smock.

I'm giving the micarta a shot on the smock, too. I love micarta, and I love the smock, so hopefully it'll work. We'll see this week! I'm just wondering if g10 in a cool color might fit better on an "out there" design like the smock.

I really like the Putman micarta scales I got from SMKW on my Manix 52100 (not too crazy about his G10 ones). I tried to find more for my M2 M4, etc, last week, but everybody was out of stock. I finally received an email from "your online store's contact form" from Allen Putman himself, who said he would be restocking in about 3 weeks. FWIW they seem to be $10 cheaper at DLT than SMKW.
K-390 on hand: Mule Team 17, Police 4 G-10, Endela (burlap micarta), Endela backup, Endura (canvas micarta), Straight Stretch (now blade-swapped with G-10 Stretch), Delica Wharncliffe, Dragonfly Wharncliffe, & Dragonfly Wharncliffe shorty mod
Note to self: Less is more.

DLT has turned into my #1. Website isn't as good as others, but once I hear something is available that I'm looking for, their the first I check with.

I just made my first scales out of micarta today. Man, it’s nasty stinky stuff. I can see why Spyderco hasn’t been wanting to make knives with micarta. I know sal has said it was because of the lack of moisture or something in Golden but I have to think it has to do with how messy it is.
Most recently acquired: Military 2, Paramilitary 2 Tanto x2, YoJUMBO, Swayback, Siren, DLC Yojimbo 2, Native Chief, Shaman S90V, Para 3 LW, Ikuchi, UKPK, Smock, SUBVERT, Amalgam, Para 3 CTS-XHP, Kapara, Paramilitary 2 M390
Grail Paramilitary 2 M390 X 2! ACHIEVED!!

I told Allen Putman that ^^^ when I answered his email about the Manix 2 scales. It would help create more demand if we could get a new XL sprint or exclusive in K390.
