Who wants a Delica Wharncliffe with ZDP189 and BRG?

The Jazzeclia is a sweet knife, it would be excellent with the British Racing Green and ZDP189 platform.
There are others who agree:

I really wish there was a Delica wharnie ZDP 189. That’s what I’d suggest then.

That'd be a beast of a cutter. The HAP40 Wharncliffe Delica is one of my all time favourites for warehouse type work.

Maybe Sal and Eric will read this and hook us up.
I never got around to buying a HAP40 Delica WC, so I'm definitely hoping for this ZDP to go into production. Please and thank you Spydiecrew, you all rock :spyder:

I guess it's sometimes a nickname for it.

I voted yes, because well... of course!!

:D but seriously, for some reason I haven't tried ZDP-189 yet. I would probably try it out in the Wharncliffe model.

Ok, sounds cool that’s for sure! I’m not experienced with ZDP189 but according to our fellows here, it makes for a great Delica!

Definitely in. The Wharnie is the only Delica I ever carry at this point. ZDP is my favorite steel for the Seki models. Match made in heaven, for sure.

Personally I'd be more likely to buy one of those, and we know now it's possible to get cruwear on a seki model. I have a zdp delica, but I've found I'm much more likely to grab my cruwear delica or my hap40 wc: both are awesome and much easier for me to sharpen. I do love the BRG color, though, but I'd probably pass on a zdp wc delica.

Since there's not a "no" option, I can't vote... I prefer hap40 to zdp.

Weird thing is, I sharpen freehand, and have never found ZDP hard to sharpen. Only steel that made me angry sharpening was S110V. I’d love a Cruwear wharnie, but also a ZDP. I often picture the ZDP one in my mind and wish. I love how the steel lightly patinas.

Yeah, that occasional bluish misty patina is very cool.

ZDP189 doesn’t get a great deal of fanfare, although it has quite a few dedicated users here whenever it’s discussed.

Thinking it over, since this subject came up, it’s probably my favourite of the PM stainless steels.

All steels are a learning experience in extended sharpening and usage, but in my experience ZDP189 has been an excellent performer.

I like the way it takes and holds a really fine edge, unlike some of the Crucible PM stainlesses, which seem to favour coarser edges.

I’ve never had issues really with sharpening it, and despite using my Dragonfly heavily, it’s never chipped in normal use.

I feel like I ‘trust’ its performance more than S30V.

Then if you compare it to the popular M390/CTS 204P/CPM 20CV grades, it’s run a fair bit harder.

Others will have their own preferences, of course, but personally, more ZDP189, especially in the Jazzlica configuration is always going to be a good thing.

Another thing to consider, is it’s actually been designed for high end cutlery, if I’m not mistaken.

 Would prefer superblue or cruwear but I'd probably buy the zdp 189. Small wharncliffes and high edge retention go together perfectly.

Also, example of how ZDP 189 isn't bad to sharpen. I gifted my zdp endura to a friend who runs a coffee shop, has a very large garden, and does wood /furniture work. He uses his knives all day but before now carried ~$30 knives. He knows how to sharpen having worked in kitchens but I was still worried he'd struggle when the time came. He doesn't have nice equipement for it. Turns out he's just fine. He was surprised at how easily it sharpened up compared with his 7cr knives and he did get a nice edge on it.

XHP would be a sweet sprint/exclusive.

I think Cruwear would also be an excellent option with its relatively high toughness - I’m thinking of that thin, pointy tip.

I should mention that I did snap off about 1-2mm of the fine tip on my ZDP189 Dragonfly once, when I accidentally brushed it off a steel bench and it fell tip first onto the concrete floor. I don’t blame that on the steel of course, it was user error. There were also other times when it fell glancingly onto concrete and I was favourably surprised to see no tip or edge damage at all.

How about a ZDP-189 wharnecliffe stretch? Blasphemy i know but I don't care for the delica handle.
