Can we let it go?

#1

Post by JuPaul »

When I joined this forum a few months ago I was immediately impressed by how polite and kind people are here, which is sadly unusual for an anonymous online community. But the last few days one thread in particular has been really bumming me out...we all know which.

I think at this point, everyone has had the chance to express his/her opinions on the subject (which is our right, or course), but it's clear we're just going to have to agree to disagree on that topic, and that is 100% ok. I certainly don't mean to suppress anyone's voice or to criticize anyone, but tempers are flaring, and productive discussion seems to be ending. So it feels like a good time to let that thread go. Can we all kiss and make up and move on to other more fun topics? I feel like we need a new article from Larin to think about... :p

The BBS thread...which should have stopped many pages ago. That's an agonizing read :(

If I personally view what someone says as a complaint, whether it's warranted or not to me, I pretty much just leave it be. It takes 2 to tango and the people swooping in to attack others for complaining are just as guilty (if not more) of stirring up unwanted drama.

It’s easy enough to ignore the drama filled threads. It has worked well for me - I still love this forum!

I have a feeling which thread this is about. I honestly don't read every thread, some of them just don't catch my interest and if it's the one I'm thinking of I really couldn't care less, especially not enough to argue with anyone over it.

I sure am. A spider (a real spider) bit me on the butt. Then I realized if you say 'a spider bite' quickly it sounds like 'assbiter bite'. I got bit by 'assbiter'.

Well, this happens occasionally. The red locktight issue was not so good. Bearings in the mantra gots bit ugly. Or the disassembly voiding warrantee issue.
We will come out of this ok. And spyderco is watching. If a change is needed, then something will get changed.
Glad all you nice people are still here.

I can tell by a thread title what the thread will evolve into. I haven’t looked at that thread since it only had about 5 posts in it. It is safe to say that I have let it go.

This forum is still a very respectful place but over the years some of the internet has slowly seeped in and it has changed. It is important to remember that people make a place what it is. We cannot avoid folks being argumentative or antagonistic but we can control how we react to them. Folks like that move on when they don’t get the attention they desire.

Just be mindful of what threads you participate in and who you engage with. Don’t be afraid to use the ignore feature if you need to. :)

Very wise words BFK! Was told to me in my younger days, but it took many years before I really understood what it meant.

The best part, comedy-wise, is watching people expose their true colors by not being able to suppress their angry opinions against those of others. Human nature (tendency towards conflict) + dialogue = beautiful.

I really like this forum because it is an overwhelmingly positive place with tons of great information, advice, experience that I just can't find elsewhere. When threads take a turn towards the antagonistic, I find myself wanting to avoid them altogether. And that really sucks when it happens in a thread that I want to follow.
