What percentage of your Spyderco collection consists of fixed blades?

#1

Post by vivi »

In the count em up thread I was surprised at how many people had 0 Spyderco fixed blades.

Add up your folders and fixed blades from Spyderco then vote for your percentage.

I voted "50% or less" as 1/3 of my collection does not fold.

I think I have around 12 Spydercos left and 3 are fixed blades.
So, 25%.

I messed up and voted O%. 1 out of 37 Spydies = 2.7% . So my vote should be 10% or less.

I have no practical use for fixed blades do to legal restrictions where I live. If I were allowed to conceal carry them I would probably have as many fixed blades as folders. As is Kitchen Knives only. I'm eyeballin those Murray Carter's :D

Unfortunately, I do not have the desire to count the total number of Spydercos in my collection but I have 9 fixed blade Spydercos. (Counting 3 throwing knives individually) I would estimate that makes up a little over 10% of my collection.

I voted 25% or less.

Of the 22 Spyders I have 7 are fixed blades so 30% odd. Unless a new Military Sprint happens in the mean time the Province is the next Spyder I’ll buy.

If I take into account all the knives I own I’d reckon I have way more fixed blades than folders.

Shame the Bow River didn’t follow suit to the Sprig and Southfork. ;)

I voted: 50% or less. :)

Hmmm ... a little distorted maybe....

Spydie to Spydie = 19%

All brand folders to all brand fixed blades = 39%

This year is the first time my folder count has outnumbered my fixed count.

As I mentioned before, Spyderco has a lot of potential for growth in the fixed blade arena... given they could do fixed blades as popular as their folders.

If I figure for kitchen cutlery (mine is all Germany and Japan), I still have more fixed blades than folders....

I have 3 fixed and voted 10% or less.

Liking Spydies seems to be a constantly expanding education.

When I first started, I was only motivated by testing different high quality steel types for a good working folding knife, and had no interest in things like their serrated knives, the Salt series, fixed blades or their kitchen knives.

(Actually I forgot to include the old school Masahiro made MBS26 Chef knife, I was lucky enough to score in the raffle Sal ran a while back, so the proportion of fixed blades might be slightly over 10%.)

Generally I had no interest in the fixed blades, because you can get a decent custom hunting or utility knife here in Australia for the price of a decent fixed Spydie.

And I generally have no need for any more kitchen knives as I'm well served in that area with hand made Japanese chef knives, that I'm completely satisfied with.

You forumites finally got me interested in acquiring the Southfork and Sprig as a hunting knife pair, but I dilly dallied too long and just missed out when they were discontinued. So I ended up trying out the Bradley Bowie and Junction instead, and am well pleased with them. Recently I got a Waterway too.

They all compare favourably with my custom and handmade knives in functionality.

Looking for more fixed blades. 3 inch folders are not good self defense tools.

I have just one Spyderco fixed-blade—the WaterWay—among my 60-some Spydies. However, I’m on the verge of getting an Enuff Salt.

My entire collection is probably about 75% fixed blades if we're counting all the knives...kitchen knives, multitools, pocket knives, knife shaped choppers etc. Outside of Spyderco the only folding knives I tend to buy are Leatherman multis.

Are we counting kitchen knives? I have two :spyder: kitchen knives, and the Sprig mostly lives in my kitchen. In total I have 5 :spyder: .
