Manix 2 backlock SALT please

#1

Post by Doc Dan »

The Manix two is one of my favorite knives ever. I really want a back block salt version of this knife, lightweight of course.

Sign me up for one. I never did buy the backlock version, and having one in the salt line would give me another reason to try it out.

I'm in. Contoured handles somewhat similar to the Shaman would be excellent.

Yes to this. After trying the backlock version, my only complaint is that the beefier scales could be more contoured for comfort.

Other thoughts:

I guess I could contour my own handle if I thought it needed it.

Heck yes, I'd like an M2XL of just about any kind.

I think there may be some backlock parts that would be very difficult to make in a rust-free model.

Most of Spydercos salts are backlocks.

Oops, like my Pacific and Dragonfly salts :o Looks like I shouldn't have stopped thinking after those first "other thoughts."
But I'm sticking to wanting a new XL model and maybe even shaping the scales some on a lockback M2 if I get one ;) Of course, I think, an FRN version would already be contoured.

Salt, Rex45, Maxamet, Cruwear(for those of you dying for more), or really any other cool steel in a Manix back lock would be amazing. I missed out on the original run of the model, but IF it were ever revived in any form, I wouldn't let it pass me by a second time.

Considering that doing the molds for a LW version is crazy expensive I wouldn't get your hopes up for this one.

Contoured would be best, for sure. The same blade thickness as the regular Manix 2, as well.

Plus the fact that the Manix Backlock didn't sell all that well to begin with, it really seems unlikely to happen. On top of that, it isn't really clear whether people would prefer the regular Manix or the Manix XL.

I think baby steps are okay in this case. Maybe we should be asking for a regular Manix LW SALT before we dive straight into new FRN molds for an FRN backlock version. Just my two cents! :spyder:

this Is doable for them. And, the regular Manix LW is more popular than the XL. It is practical.

Sure it's doable. I don't think anyone's questioning that Dan. But would it be profitable?

I think it would be much more practical to do the Manix LW Salt as 'Shroom suggests. If the ball bearing for the lock rusting is a worry they could even use ceramic.

They generally use a G10 version of a model to gauge popularity before sinking precious R&D money into making moulds. I think it would be reasonable to assume they discontinued the Manix back lock because it wasn't selling as well as it needs. So why would they risk going forward with a LW version of a model that didn't sell well? Not to mention a specialized Salt version.

Sorry, don't mean to rain on your parade but I don't think it's very likely to happen. I'm all for new models even if they're something I wouldn't personally be interested in. So I hope for your sake it happens.
