Questionable Techno 2 Lockup
Questionable Techno 2 Lockup
Looks like only the very tip of the lockbar on my new Techno 2 is making contact with the blade Tang. Just wondering if this is normal? The knife currently has no play in any direction, but I am wondering if this will be an issue down the road. The pictures included should highlight the contact gap and wear on the tang of the knife. Any response is appreciated!

Re: Questionable Techno 2 Lockup
Not sure what you mean exactly, but it looks like perfect lockup to me! :-)
Re: Questionable Techno 2 Lockup
I can see what you're talking about, I'd expect that the lock would be safe as long as there is sufficient engagement depth and that it might eventually wear in to fitting better. However, I'd also say that it's an important clearance and that it's out of spec by a fair amount, so a return for adjustment or replacement isn't an unreasonable request.
I'm also guessing that the stop pin is what's out of spec and creating the misalignment between tang and lockbar, the fix might be as simple as loosening the knife up, spinning the stop pin until the engagement is better and re-tightening... if you're not already comfortable with doing your own work though I'd let Spyderco do that (or whatever remedy they figure out).

Re: Questionable Techno 2 Lockup
I appreciate the response and I totally agree. Unfortunately I live in Canada so our knife laws make it almost impossible to ship the knife back to Spyderco for warranty service and have it arrive back in Canada without being seized at the border. Good news is I'm no stranger to taking apart Spydies, so I'll probably just wait untill it is in need of a clean and see what I can do while I've got it apart.awa54 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2019 11:41 amI can see what you're talking about, I'd expect that the lock would be safe as long as there is sufficient engagement depth and that it might eventually wear in to fitting better. Re: Questionable Techno 2 Lockup
Not sure what happened but I can't see the opening paragraph or photos on the thread anymore. Is it just me?
Re: Questionable Techno 2 Lockup
Well, looks like my paragraph and pictures magically disappeared. Cool.

Not sure why my replies aren't going through. I'll try to get to the bottom of it.

My guess on the 'delayed posts'- there was a new post moderation issue for a newly registered member?
Re: Questionable Techno 2 Lockup
That lockup is normal. That's how liner/frame locks are supposed to engage. Otherwise there's lock rock.
