Re: Favorite Scales?
Till right now just THREE votes out of 35 for FRN (which I voted for), but 16 for cf in the one or the other form...quite amazing.
Makes me wonder somehow how many people actually use their knives as tools in cold, wet, muddy, tough, outdoorsy, drop-the-knife... scenarios.
(Don't get me wrong: That's just a question, not an offense!! It's totally fine of course to have a knife more for urban tasks or maybe just to prefer cf generally)

Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Re: Favorite Scales?
FRN and micarta
Re: Favorite Scales?
My exact choices either. Both work perfectly for how / where I use knives.
Still happen to have this pic I posted recently elsewhere, I may "recycle" it here, for it just fits as an illustration.. :)

Work with knives on boats with slime, blood and guts and use FRN pacific salts.Wartstein wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2019 11:38 pmTill right now just THREE votes out of 35 for FRN (which I voted for), but 16 for cf in the one or the other form...quite amazing.

The question was what’s my favourite scale. G10 was picked
What do you use the most is a different answer
Im a vegetarian as technically cows are made of grass and water.
Re: Favorite Scales?
Mine are probably
A+: Pakkawood/CF/Titanium (depending on model)
A: Micarta
A—: G10
B: Smooth G10
C: Stainless
D: FRN
Never liked FRN. Maybe if it was more similar to the G10 models, with a peel/play type texture and chamfered, I'd like it more. The aggressiveness of many FRN scales scratch my knuckles when reaching into my pocket quickly as well. It also just feels cheap, as I if I'm not holding a world class folding knife (even though I am).

Re: Favorite Scales?
I like smooth G10, FRN, and linen micarta, depending on the knife.

same, but maybe blade swapped for cruwear.ZrowsN1s wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2019 11:29 pmI think if I were forced to only keep one knife out of my existing collection, it would be the S90V CF Shaman. Re: Favorite Scales?
I also have come to like Micarta a lot and I’d love to try it on a folder. I voted FRN though, reference my tag line.

Really? Oh man, I love S90V. Maybe I need to give Cruwear another shot. Sold my cruwear para3 awhile back to buy an M390 para3 which I also sold to buy my S90V Shaman :Dcurlyhairedboy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 6:12 amsame, but maybe blade swapped for cruwear.ZrowsN1s wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2019 11:29 pmI think if I were forced to only keep one knife out of my existing collection, it would be the S90V CF Shaman. Re: Favorite Scales?
I'm a fan of s90v, but having just tested a buddy's cruwear manix, I'm in love with the performance. It's not supposed to be stainless, but it survived salt air and a whole bunch of sweat with no issues and no protection needed.

Re: Favorite Scales?
FRN folders, Micarta fixed blades.
Re: Favorite Scales?
Not sure how to answer... I pretty much like all of your options epending on the application. SS would probably get my down vote
Re: Favorite Scales?
Took this pic recently for a friend - but I figure a picture is worth a thousand words.
The g10 has moved on to a new home, leaving micarta and frn as my choices.

Good points, and if you see it that way, you are, well... absolutely right! :)
For me my favorite scales just are the ones that I like the most in use, but you are correct, that does not HAVE to be so for everone (much like the Chap LW is the most perfect Spydie imho, but could never be the one I actually USE the most, right? )

1. Titanium
2. Titanium
3. Titanium
4. CF of any kind
5. G10 of any kind
If it was up to me, nothing more. Although I do want to try wood and micarta scales some time.
