Taichung Mid Backlocks

#1

Post by SG89 »

A lot of us missed out on the Sage 4. But why no more Taichung backlocks (besides the Chap)? A Taichung backlock with s30v and g10 seems like it would be cheaper than a Seki backlock with vg10 and g10 or am I wrong? Is Spyderco not making more backlocks in Taichung out of respect to Seki/Moki?

You are speaking my language now. I’m all for more back locks in general and Taichung back locks in particular. Also I’d like to see more Golden back lock offerings.

I know that you can hardly tell that I like back locks.

I don't know that I necessarily need another back lock from Taichung but I'd certainly consider it if they made another that suits me. It's funny, when I got back into knives a few years ago I wasn't interested in back locks because that's all I ever carried when I was younger. I was enjoying all these great new (to me) locking mechanisms. I still really like those other locks but I think I now have more back locks than anything. Tried and true for sure.

I'd love to see a larger version of the Chaparral, a re-issue of the Sage 4 with scales like the Sage 1 or Zulu, and a Spyderco branded and Spyderhole equipped version of the Byrd Harrier with a 2mm thick blade like the Chaparral's.

Sage4 sprint run!!!!

The Taichung backlocks with their internal stop pin are brilliant.

My Sage4’s lock is generally well executed, but a little too stiff for my liking.

If other Sage4s are the same, I’d wonder whether this stiffness is intentional and might carry over into other Taichung models. If so, I’d think twice about buying them.

However, my two Chaps are just right, but they are daintier...

So, I voted yes, but provisionally...

Totally I´d like to see more backlocks, and even more so with a perfect,no play lock like the Chaparral has.
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Sage 4 sprint run with some of that new fat carbon fiber or lightning strike carbon fiber would be sick. Or burlap micarta. Or desert ironwood. Choices are endless.

Either way, big fan of backlocks. It is my preferred lock. I'm really not pro Taichung comp locks. They don't seem to work as well on the examples i have and have had.

I still want a k390 rookie.
But as back locks go, there are the (mostly) frn models (delica, endurance, etc). We got the chaparrals, natives, Police, and chinook. And a kopa ready for modification.
Not a lot of the collaborations have been lock back (except chinook). Any others? Persian I guess. Love that knife. We need more like that.
Think about a slysz bowie lock back. Or something similar. Bradley Air would be a perfect lock back.

Caribbean mid-backlock. Like the only thing keeping me away from buying it are reports of kinda weak detent. With backlock, no detent to worry about.

Yes I would like to see more Taichung backlock.....but not the funny puny knives like Sage. Give me someting with 3,5 - 4 inch blade and then we are talking.

No too the whole thing. Hate backlocks with a deep passion. I think it's funny that most of the forum loves backlocks but when I talk to friends and colleages most prefer liner lock or to try something new.

More back locks across the board. It is what I carry daily (Native,Delica). Being a lefty, I'm not a fan of the other locks.
