Dragonfly sitting on a Dragonfly...

#1

Post by Forest Elk »

Since it came out, I loved the Dragonfly G-10, but was hesitating to buy due to the relative high price here in Germany. Until now I already had both FRN Dragonflies in black with VG-10, BRG in ZDP-189, yellow in H-1 and the Nishijin model.
Last week I discovered a Dragonfly G-10 offered by an Austrian collector in "new condition, unused, never sharpened..." for a very good price, nearly half of the normal. After short consideration and checking my financial situation I finally pulled the trigger.
It arrived last Monday. To make it short: Perfect deal! Produced September 2009, blade absolutely dead centered, action being a little bit stiff like a new one, no scratches, symmetrical grind, perfectly matching scales, in original box with all papers! It only needed a little bit oiling.
Today I was sitting at my station desk (I am a radio amateur), enjoying the summer and playing with my new knife. Suddenly I noticed a big dragonfly flying through the open balkony door and landing on the inside windowsill.

Image

What a beauty! Here in the city you have not often the chance to see one.. I quickly took a snapshot with my mobile phone camera (sorry for the low pic quality...). Then I got the idea ... I took my new Dragonfly G-10, opened it and slowly and carefully placed it near the resting dragonfly. Shortly later I succeeded: It began crawling onto the knife and rested for about half a minute! Then it started again and flew out.

Image

Now you got it...: A dragonfly sitting on a Dragonfly! :spyder: :D

Really cool pic. I like that the dragonfly is actually a live one and not a preserved one or something like that.

Good job.

Awesome! I was just trying to get a very similar shot about 30 minutes ago! Two different dragonflies were buzzing around me but never landed close enough.

Great shot. I've tried to set one up like that a few times when I've seen dragonflies in the garden, but they've never cooperated!

Fantastic knife too. Thanks!

Thanks. I am a bit better. I can now have my care giver put on my shirt without the need to lie down again because of it. Doing better.

That Dragonfly landing on its namesake knife is really something. It has some nice colors in it,too.

Very cool shot indeed. Now who's going to take a similar picture with a Ladybug? Or any of the other "bugs" (Honeybee/ Grasshopper/ Cricket) for that matter?

Of course, if you really feel lucky you can try it with an Ocelot :D

Years ago I took a pic of a ladybug crawling on my Dragonfly Salt lying on the table...

Fantastic photo. I have been trying for a few years to get a dragonfly x 2 photo. Here, they prefer to land on the tip of a plumeria, and all attempts to pre-set a dragonfly knife result in them selecting a knife-free plumeria.

Best I have been able to get are knives in the foreground six feet from the flier.

Yours is a very special shot.
Maybe the dragonfly kept cool because the knife was Foliage green? (eyeroll)

I posted an ATS55 Cricket with two Jerusalem Crickets the other day in the Cricket update thread:

Here's one of the beachtown dragonflies:

With frustrating knife interposition; in the old days with a Canon SLR, I could manually prefocus the distance, then stop-down preview for depth of field to confirm that both objects were in focus. These digicams might fix red-eye, but I haven't found an easy way to do the above. grrr

And here's an ocelot doublet. Who'd a thunk a French piolet ocelot, lol?
