Smallest spyderco you are comfortable with?
Re: Smallest spyderco you are comfortable with?
If you mean for regular, daily carry: For me an EDGE (so not BLADE) between 3.1" and 3.5". And a handle that gives my L to XL hands a good four finger grip without having to use a choil for that (if the actual handle offers a good four finger grip, an additional choil is fine, but not a must-have)
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Depends on use for me... I keep something small like a Dog Tag or manbug in the kitchen for opening packages. When it comes time to break them down for trash/recycling a Dragonfly is the smallest I go but usually use something bigger.
For carry I like something in the 3" range preferably with a sheepsfoot blade so it doesn't freak out the city folk as much. I also find sheepsfoot and wharncliffe blades to be more usable and safer than pointy upswept ones.

What would be some tasks you cannot use a smaller knife for? Would everyone here be in agreement that the Dragon Fly and Man Bug knives are too small to be used to prepare foods such as at BBQs and picnics, because the blade length is too small to prepare sandwiches and other foods, or, not?

The Cricket is an old favorite of mine. It's not perfect (the "action" on a small framelock is very hard to make smooth the way a big knife can feel) but it's slim and practical for most everyday uses.
I wish there were more small reverse-S blades with slim handles.

It takes a few rotations, but the Dragonfly is perfectly capable of cutting apples, cucumbers, chicken breast, broccoli crowns. I actually did it the other day when making my lunch, just to see how it performed. Wasn't ideal, but certainly capable.

Besides the Dog Tag on my keychain, the Chaparral / Cat is about as small as I carry these days. I have a Dragonfly but never carried it.
My EDC rotation: Kapara, Chaparral CF, Mantra, Sage 1, Sage 5, Dice, Domino, Gayle Bradley 2, PakkaDelica, Native CFF

I'd say the Kiwi; I've carried smaller as a backup, but the Kiwi is the minimum I'd carry on days when I've only got a single blade on me.
(besides the ones on my keys or a SAK/Leatherman)
I carry bigger knives like the Mamba, Vallotton, Military, etc. on most days, but it's not like working in an office as an IT guy really requires me to :p

I guess smallest is a Delica, but I almost always am carrying something bigger that the Delica and even the Native. It amazed me how the Endela seems to have hit a sweet spot. It sits next to my home computer and is getting about the most daily use with its 3.4 inch blade and grind. I haven't carried it yet, but use it constantly.

Urban for me. Disappears in the pocket. Still big enough for practical use.

How secure is the mcbee's clip?
Re: Smallest spyderco you are comfortable with?
When I need something smaller and lighter, I can get by with a Dragonfly. When I have to go with the absolute smallest and lightest, I will carry the Gayle Bradley Air.
