Thanx Shawn,

Would you please email your exact tempering method? We're expecting a sample of 15V and we'd like to try to see if we can do that in production.

Anything that's 64+ hrc and stable I'm in, but my definition of stable might be different than others, it all depends on use.

I’m sure hoping to see a Manix XL in 15v! Sliciness and wear resistance through the roof! Just what I need for my job. Loving Maxamet, S90v, and S110v at work, but 15v sounds like a lot of fun to use and sharpen.
BRING ON THE MANIX XL SPRINTS AND EXCLUSIVES! And 10v or K390ify the Golden lineup, please.

Top 5 folders I’ve owned: Serrated Caribbean Leaf, Shaman, Manix XL, ZDP-189/CF Caly 3.5, Native LW.
Top 5 steels I’ve owned: LC200N, K390, CPM S90V, M390, CPM REX45.
Top 3 steels I want more of: M390 class, A11 class (including K390), CPM REX45.

I like cruwear but in my experience, it’s like a less stainless but easier to sharpen s30v. Not wear resistant enough for my job, and I’d rather use lc200n on non work days. I don’t have any complaints about cruwear, but no real use for it either. I listed xhp because it’s my favorite of the jack of trades steels (aside from 20cv, but I don’t have any spyderco folders in 20cv, only a mule).

I believe is has slightly higher toughness than maxamet for the same hardness, so they can't go wrong. I can't find the source where I've read that though. I believe Larrin mentioned in one of his recent articles that both have about 22-23% carbide by volume for a given heat treatment protocol, so they're probably pretty similar, even though carbide volume is just one variable influencing toughness.

Yeah that's sharp!
Takes a nice edge, crisp and aggressive and a very strong steel.

Very cool Shawn! :)

That's not sharp, that's Charp!

I agree with Alex. I just put a nice 15dps edge on my Spyderco Chef Knife (not to be confused with the Spydiechef). It will shave arm hair smooth as butter, it will slice cleanly through a paper towel... but push cut? Nope.

I know the geometry of your knives helps a lot but still, you set the sharpening bar pretty high.

Yeah, I have achieved paper towel slicing countless times. I have maybe achieved push cutting a paper towel a couple of times and I consider myself a great sharpener. I do prefer a coarser edge in the 800-1200 range so maybe I need a little more refinement.

I think I may need to up my game finally and get some CBN emulsion.

Diamond Spray on leather, I'm not a fan of the emulsions. They make the leather rock hard.

I just use 1um.
