Now THAT's better.. (Caribbean dye job)
I stand by my original opinion that the yellow and black is really not bad, but this is much better.
If you look in that last pic, the very first groove on the left almost looks like it has a little yellow left in it. I think it's actually that this groove is cut deeper/wider than the others so it's brighter. The color is "graphite" and it almost looks like a less jade colored natural G10, and when the light hits it you can see the weave of the G10 and it gives it an almost carbon fiber look.
I've never used the Rit DyeMore synthetic stuff before, but I figured since G10 has fiberglass fiber in it then it may take this dye better than the standard stuff. Also, the color remover does indeed work, it removed my previous dye job down to what seemed like the original yellow color (so this dye job started out as "factory" as I could make it).
Factory..
Green Apple..
Graphite..

Nice adaptation like the way it turned out.
Re: Now THAT's better..
Much more sensible, looks great.
Is that a 30 degree Sharpmaker edge?
Is that a 30 degree Sharpmaker edge?
Re: Now THAT's better..
It's more around 35ish. I cut some grooves in the bottom of the Sharpmaker base so a rod will sit in the groove and be in the same place every time and it lowers the angle from 20 (the 40 inclusive slot) to about 17.5. On the 30 slots it hits the shoulder of the bevel so I have to drop down to the 40 to hit the edge and I wanted it as low as I could get it.

Re: Now THAT's better..
I thought that bevel looked too wide for 40 and too thin for 30 with that ffg. Nice edge, a good example of the benefits of back and forth strokes for SE on the Sharpmaker.
Re: Now THAT's better..
Thats some great looking scales. Looks like the knife was meant to have that scale colour

That looks great! I have one of these waiting for me in my mailbox right now but in sheepsfoot plain edge. I will keep this in mind if I really don't like the yellow jacket look.
Re: Now THAT's better.. (Caribbean dye job)
Looks great. I’ve come to like the bumblebee look. But can definitely see why some people don’t. Thanks for posting!

I am not a fan of the bee stripes either. Looks better toned down a bit.

Re: Now THAT's better.. (Caribbean dye job)
Looks good David. I'd be way more apt to look at this model if it came with these scales. I honestly don't know much about the factory model because I find it so hideous. This could grab attention!

Re: Now THAT's better.. (Caribbean dye job)
That really is a shame, I suspect it's the same for many people. I honestly think it's the best new model available and maybe the best Sal has made, but I know my tastes are maybe a little peculiar so I know those are bold statements. It's everything I want in a hard working knife.

Re: Now THAT's better.. (Caribbean dye job)
I totally understand that it's a beefy knife, with a great steel, capable of some serious use...it's just the look of it, I personally can't. Especially for the price. But...your mod, it honestly looks awesome!Evil D wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2019 7:53 pm

Re: Now THAT's better.. (Caribbean dye job)
Sold. I have that same Rit Dye ready to go - originally bought for the "jade" G10. I think there is some more LanceClinton200n in my near future. Thanks for the pics! I was waiting hoping for a completely blacked out model.
Re: Now THAT's better.. (Caribbean dye job)
for me, it’s the pinky hook more than the looks, but i don’t like the looks either. this one definitely looks cooler, but i’d probably keep it yellow, since i’d be using it in the water primarily.

Looks good. Nicely done. I'll have to try that synthetic fabric RIT dye.
Re: Now THAT's better.. (Caribbean dye job)
Brilliant. I suddenly find that I actually like the Caribbean.
