We're a small niche on a knife forum, and apparently even smaller as a couple metal heads. What are some of your favorites?

I know it's cliche anymore to say you like lots of different music but I've had so many influences I can't avoid it. I like everything from Johnny Cash to Cannibal Corpse. Some of my favorite heavy bands are BTBAM, The Acacia Strain, Oceano, Gojira, Mastodon, Amon Amarth, Beyond Creation, Despised Icon, Fallujah (before the singer change), Knocked Loose, Rings of Saturn, older Veil of Maya... it's a long list.

I hear ya, it all started for me when I was around 12 and my friends brother went away to college. We snooped in his room and found his Pantera "Far Beyond Driven" cassette and a "Six Feet Under" cassette (a few band members of Cannibal Corpse I believe?) I was hooked after that. Never felt that kind of energy from music before. That's a good 24 years ago now.

That's a good list you've got there, I have many saved as favorites in SiriusXM settings in my truck (Liquid Metal, channel 40) Knocked Loose, their all so young, they can really turn into something huge if they keep at it!

A few of my favorites As I Lay Dying, Suicide Silence, August Burns Red, Emmure, older Atreyu was great in my college years and still listen to it, Slaughter to Prevail, Norma Jean, Carnifex, After The Burial is pretty good with a twist of...I don't want to say techno, but has something like it. As you said, way to many to list.

Thanks for sharing man!

That's a great find "EXTRA" :) Very few people know that tune was on the flip side of their hit on 45rpm disc of their super hit "Up On Cripple Creek"

Also I loved their version of "TheWeight that they did in the Easy Rider movie. And what a name " The BAND"

But I will be a kill-joy to a large degree because I still think that the version of "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" done by super lady Joan Baez in the fall of 1971 was the very best version of that song.

Gayle McCormick!!!! A Group called SMITH with one of my favorite songs of all time "Baby It's You"!!!! She just died a couple of years ago I was sad to hear. I don't know what ultimately happened to the group but they weren't bad for late 60s. There was another late 60s group that was awesome and they were the band "CROW" and their huge hit was "Evil Woman". There was a lot of hidden talent in the late 60s/early 70s.

I was just playing that SMITH song about 3 days ago  The Group Called Smith were either on Dunhill Records or ABC records I'm not completely sure.

The video is from Martin Scorsese "The Last Waltz" documentary of the Bands last concert... Epic to say the least !

I didn’t know that about Joan Baez. ..thanks for the tip JD.

Well Joe I'm not trying to make you green with envy but I think it might>> because I've counted all the times I've seen Jethro Tull back in the day. The first time I saw them was in the summer of 1971 on the original "Aqualung" tour here in KC. I've tallied up about 11 times total I seen them in concert all together. TULL did quite a few appearances here in KC and the last time I seen them was at the old Sandstone Ampitheater back in 96. It was kind of sad because the only two original members at that time were Ian Anderson and Martin Barre (the lead guitarist). But they still weren't bad at all even though their bass player that night was only 18 years old
I also saw them in the summer of 72 at the original "Thick As A Brick" tour. That was an awesome concert needless to say.
The very best time I seen them here at KC was at the Chief's ARROWHEAD stadium in 76 with 3 back up bands ( Robin Trower included) with their monsterous "TULL A Vision" which at the time was super high tech in that day. If I remember correctly I think there was around 50,000 that showed up to that gig.
I'll admit that I have not kept up with Anderson's most recent work. But he changed so much over the years I kind of lost interest. But back in the day they were an awesome concert band.

James,
You've might have already checked it out, but here is Joan Baez's version. I share Joe's opinion that it's the best version of this song. It's the version I always heard on the radio:

Joe,
There really was a lot of hidden talent in that period, or talent that came out for one big hit (or maybe a few) then just seemed to fade away or disappear. Many went on to join or form other bands, I'm sure. It speaks to the era's incredibly deep talent pool.
