Byrd Harrier (2019)
Byrd Harrier (2019)
Who else is so excited for the Byrd Harrier?
I guess technically this is the Harrier 2 since the first Harrier was introduced back with the original Byrd lineup.
I love the clean lines of the new Harrier, a less bulbous blade hump, and softer curves on the handles.
With a blade length of 3.38 inches, it'll be a nice size down from the Cara Cara which can feel a little too big for some jobs.

Correct. It's a "Harrier 2".

So this is the Endela blade length equivalent in the Byrd lineup?

So, Spyderco is basically reusing the Harrier name on a knife that looks nothing like the original Harrier. That said, it's an interesting piece.

The original is beautiful! What’s the blade length, i.e. Are the two of same category?
H2 is FFG and is it linerless G10?

Re: Byrd Harrier (2019)
Mine isn't handy right now but I'd estimate that, like the new one, it's blade is a tad under 3.5" based on this shot comparing it to the Schempp Persian that's listed as having a 3.5" blade.
As for the new one, based on Wouter's photos and accompanying specs that show it as weighing 2.22 oz, I'd say it has to be unlined. Which makes it even more interesting to me, as it should make it fairly easy to reshape the rear half of the handle's grip area to resemble that of a Stretch.

Re: Byrd Harrier (2019)
I picked the "Harrier" name for the first byrd model. Thanx for showing it Deacon. The model was our first attempt to make a knife in China and it was a large learning experience for me. The project was a nightmare. I wanted to keep the name for the line, so I designed a model that I thought would fit into the line up at this time, and still keep the name. I think the Harrier 2 will be better received and I'm sure the quality will be much better than the original.

So based on the reported specs it's a little longer than the Meadowlark 2, and a bit smaller than the Cara Cara 2. Not sure the intended purpose.
Re: Byrd Harrier (2019)
Hi Grjfer,
The Cara Cara 2 has a 4.0" blade length. The Medowlark 2 has A 3.0" blade length. It some places, 4.0" blade length is not legal to carry. the Harrier 2 fills the gap. The Endela serves the same slot in the Endura family.

Thank you Sal, Paul, for the pictures and stories. This will be the Endela of the Byrds.
Any plan to do FRN and metal handle version?

Sal, thank you for the reply. Makes sense when you break it down. I'm sure I will pick one up when they become available.

Re: Byrd Harrier (2019)
There is allot to like here and the steel is not all that terrible either I repaired the blade on a coworkers knife using 8CR13MOV and it was very easy to fix and get sharp. He beat the tar out of it had huge gouges in the PE section and squared off the serrated section.
It was a Benchmade so not certain if they process the steel up to Spyderco Standards. All in all an easy steel to work with.

Man I'm really looking forward to this hitting the shelves.

Should be soon. Plain or combo.

Re: Byrd Harrier (2019)
I love the gentle sweeping curve of the edge and the pointy tip. It should carry nice and slim too.
The new Para3 LW has been hogging all the pocket time but I can tell the Harrier will have loads of EDC days.
