Top 5 knives you actually carry

#1

Post by Doc Dan »

I no longer have to use a knife hard on a job and my knife carrying needs have changed over time. I do still occasionally carry an Endura or Military, but now I have gravitated to smaller knives because of my lifestyle.

My top 5 knives that I actually carry on a daily basis are:

1. Urban LW K390
2. Chaparral
3. Victorinox Pioneer X
4. Manix 2 LW
5. Dragonfly

One or more of these are always in my pocket as they meet my practical needs. If I need something else, I can always go and get it.

What are your top 5 knives that you now actually carry?

In no particular order, because I can't manage to do that:

Sliverax
Caribbean SE leaf
Autonomy 1
Dragonfly Salt SE
Dragonfly Salt SE hawkbill

I'm pretty sure those are the only ones I've carried in almost 2 years, except for my Maxamet Native 5 that I carried for testing. All but one is serrated, and some time in the near future that's going to change too.

My top 5 overall and top 5 carried are definitely separate lists.

Top 5 carried in no particular order -

Titanium Squarehead
Lil Native SE - DLC
Lil Native PE - Satin
Delica 4 CE - Black TiCN
Para 3 LW

The Para 3 LW is a recent addition, obviously, but it hasnt been kicked out of pocket just yet! Really enjoying this one!

You mean right now?

In no particular order (Spydercos only):

- Lefty Military
- Para 3 Maxamet
- Pacific Salt SE
- Gayle Bradley
- UKPK S110V

That’s probably based on carry time since the start of the year. My all time most carried would be different.

The K390 Police should get a mention, as while I use it around the house enough to easily make it into the top 5, it’s just a little too big for me to carry afield as a single EDC. (The lefty Millie usually serves as a lightweight backup to a smaller blade.)

Kiwi, whether it be one of the bolstered production version, one of those that has been customized, or an engraved all stainless, a Kiwi has been in my watch pocket 99.9% of the time for the past 16 years.

Burgundy Micarta Jester, it has kept my keys company since I first got it nearly 16 years ago.

Stretch, I've carried one version or another, production or custom, probably 90% of the time since late November, 2004.

Chaparral, carry the CF version instead of a Stretch on days when I'm headed for Greenville.

Modified K04 "Mini Santoku", ok I don't carry it in my pocket, but it spends more time in my hand than the other four combined so I'm including it in my list.

Don't have a 5th. I constantly rotate my right front pocket carry.
Those are my most used spyderco knives recently

Been carrying a Microtech scarab in elmax a lot lately.

Always have a victorinox ranger on me.

What I carry changes on the arrival of a new knife. A spate of new ones has come in over the past several months.

These five have been getting pocket time:

VG10 Stretch2
S90V Native5 (contoured CF)
LC200N Caribbean (PE)
20CV Manix2
Kapara

Once the novelty wears off, other Manix2s, other Stretches, as well PM2s and Millies get into the mix. I can and do prolong the novelty by keeping my go-tos and others on a side table for comparing and fondling while watching TV or reading.

The vast majority of the time I carry a Spyderco Sage 2. Now that the weather is getting hot again, I'm transitioning to the Spydiechef for somewhat regular carry. When I need something with a short blade that I can afford to lose, I carry either a Cold Steel Tuff Lite with blue handle, or a sage green show side scale Gerber Kettlebell. The Kettlebell will almost certainly be replaced by a Spyderco Insistent as soon as it's available for purchase.

Top five for me, in no particular order:

-Pacific Salt SE
-Police 4
-CPM REX 45 Military
-Native 5 Maxamet
-Advocate

I always have at least one of these in my pocket every day, plus a Leatherman Wave on my belt.

Often carried, but not necessarily every day, are:

-Drop point UKPK in CTS BD1N
-Victorinox Hiker
-Boye Cobalt Folder
-HAP40 Manbug
-Calypso Jr Super Blue

My EDC pair for the past week or so has been the Police 4 and UKPK.

Pacific salt PE
Dragonfly 2
PM2
Para 3
Military (Titanium RIL)

Those probably get my most attention. Runner ups: Brouwer/SpydieChef/Techno 2 because I love a RIL made in Taiwan! (With the exception of my lock sticky SpydieChef)
