Re: Finished School Project
That's some excellent work, Jeremy!
You've done some extensive research to understand the subject, and presented it in a very clear and well illustrated piece. I'm also impressed by how you have reached out to ask questions directly of professionals in the field, like Sal and Larrin, and other 'knife steel nerds' like most of the rest of us. :D
You clearly have a passion for the subject. One thing Sal says is that learning about knife steels is like being in a big room with many doors leading out into different areas of knowledge and learning.
Another site which you may find interesting is the scienceofsharp blog - https://scienceofsharp.wordpress.com
It contains many images of steel edges which have been sharpened in different ways, photographed using a Scanning Electron Microscope at around 5000x magnification.
The writer of the blog is mainly concerned with sharpening old style straight razors for shaving, but the information applies to knives too.
The photographs of steel and sharpening stones under high magnification are fascinating, and personally I learned a lot from them.
How are you liking your Spyderco knife? My Chaparral has come in handy for many day-to-day jobs.
Keep up the great work!

What I admire here is the genuine interest and the action to pursue it ... and parental unit(s) on board to support! Run with it kid and nice job. Your passion + societies wants and needs = your potential calling
