Table is super appreciated!!! Have to ask, am i the only one who feels like ZDP-189 is a genuine "super steel"? I love my ZDP endura like another family member. HAP40 endura also. Both take a ridiculous edge and hold it past my hand cramping. Not saying there arent or wont be better, but seems like there is a touch of dissatisfaction with the seki offerings, but i think there are truly tremendous steels in production already. Thoughts?Deadboxhero wrote: ↑Sat Mar 18, 2017 9:11 amSRS-15 (PM steel)

Let's get some SRS-15 steel on some FRN This Year!
Re: Let's get some SRS-15 steel on some FRN This Year!
Native 5 S110V G10 and LW. S90V LW. Salt LC200N. Maxamet. S30V G10 and LW. Endura 4 ZDP-189. HAP40. VG10.
Re: Let's get some SRS-15 steel on some FRN This Year!
Seki does have some great offerings, but the "Golden group" prefers US made knives, for economic reasons, model preferences, or because the Golden-made back locks are subjectively better. There's also the anti-FRN crowd. That being said, the Delica and Endura have sold VERY well for decades. The fascination with US made knives with fancy steels, also has something to do with the sheer amount of exclusives and sprints, that help draw more attention to them. I read somewhere that the Para 3 had something like 22 variations in 23 months. I don't think the Seki models can compete with that. I can only make assumptions, but it seems like more people buy Seki knives to use and more people buy Golden knives for collecting. This is not to say that Seki knives are only purchased for use and Golden knives are only purchased for collecting. These biases might be the larger reason. Sal and the Spyderco gang are probably the only ones who could really say for sure though.BigKenbo wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2019 8:30 am

Also, the Hap40 runs weren't treated the same as the Rex 45 runs, despite being pretty much identical steels. I can understand the disappointment, because I was less than thrilled as well. It's still great steel, don't get me wrong, I was just hoping it would live up to it's potential, as did many others.

Similar properties to Cruwear AND stainless? SRS-15 certainly sounds like it's worth trying. I'm in for an Endura and/or Stretch 2. I'd prefer solid over a laminated.

At what % does the Chromium content equal stainless? Asking for a friend... :pDeadboxhero wrote: ↑Fri Mar 17, 2017 7:48 pmthe composition is the same as CPM Cruwear but has the chromium increased from ~8% to ~13%

Good question. And what distinguishes "stainless" steels like S110V, S30V, VG-10, etc from "rustproof" "stainless" steels like H1 and LC200N? And is Vanax more in the "rustproof" category?
I think for most people CPM-Cruwear is nearly "stainless" in use, so a "stainless" Cruwear doesn't seem like much of a stretch. I wonder if it is similar to Elmax maybe as I have heard people refer to Elmax as "stainess" Cruwear as well?
Regardless, this is the class of steel I would like to see wide use in 2019 and 2020 sprints and exclusives. Cruwear, Elmax, and SRS-15. Vanax is another I am hoping to see ASAP!

For stainless, it must be a minimum of 10.5% chromium content by mass.legOFwhat? wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2019 2:21 pmAt what % does the Chromium content equal stainless? Maybe I missed the memo, but did no one else notice how close the chemical compositions of SRS-15 and Super Gold are?
The chromium is higher on Super Gold, and the carbide formers are of comparable levels. I figured I should mention this and provide some quick charts for comparison:

This family of steels BBB listed, at fairly high hardness, may be the best all around blade steel, depending on how much you value corrosion resistance. I value it right around zero, so I love these. I also enjoy the crazy wear resistance steels, but if I'm being practical, I think these may be better suited for knives.

SRS-15 in the Endela would likely entice me to get one.
SRS-15 in the Stretch 1 is something I'll dream about at night (since it can't happen in reality).

+1 I feel the same way. Really wish these were production steels.
