Multi quoting

#1

Post by Jazz »

I’m seriously going to go insane with all the super long - tons of scrolling - huge posts lately. It’s real easy to delete all but the last person’s post so it’s shorter. Still easy to follow the thread. I’ve been just ignoring so much because of this. Am I the only one this annoys? If so, I’ll just shut up, but wow, it annoys me.

For me it depends, Jazz. I find it annoying when it happens multiple times on the same page. At the same time, it can be helpful when it's bringing information forward from one page to the next. It can also be annoying when one or more people quote a post that contains multiple photos on the same page as the original post without editing the quote to remove the photos.

You’re not on your own there Jazz. :)

It annoys me no end. For starters, surely it’s easier to delete all but the relevant part of the post you’re quoting before you reply.

Long winded post quoted in full and replied to by more long winded post further quoted in full make thread a punish for me and I simply don’t read any of it.

Yes, especially when the reply is only addressing a short passage in a wall of text, or duplicates photos that take up lots of space. When it becomes an un-edited series of replies that each add one or two lines to a half page long quote that's the really silly/annoying part.

I like how on Bladeforums it collapses a multi quote and you have to click to expand to read the full text.

I'm guessing we're talking about the Amsterdam or Native Chief threads lately? I've noticed this a lot in those threads, but mainly with the pictures posted.

If the full quote needs to be there for clarity, I am ok with it. Otherwise, please delete the redundant portions, including photos.

I'm ok with multiquoting if it helps the continuity of the discussion. Multiquoting is mainly annoying when the two or three people going back and forth are mostly engaged in a p$$ing match and that's a separate issue.

I'm NOT OK with quoting a large picture, immediately after it was posted, and just saying "cool pic!!" Quoting pictures should really only be done when the original picture is on a previous page and you have a relevant comment on a detail in the picture.

I don't really care for long text quotes but I could live without quoting long posts that also include several pics. Good example is the Amsterdam thread...each page only has about 3-4 actual posts because each one is a quote of a quote of a quote and they all include 10 pics each so when you scroll through it all on a phone it takes forever.

That's what I was talking about too. I actually unsubscribed from the thread because it became too much.

Obviously there are relevant times, but mostly, it’s just laziness, I’m sure. Glad I’m not alone.

I’m guilty of being lazy. Editing on a phone isn’t the easiest. :( :o

You do have a point there. It's a pain in the butt, actually, on a phone.

I have little trouble editing the parts of quotes that need to be deleted with my iPhone.

Same! An IPhone is all I have. :)

That’s why I said ‘guilty of being lazy’. Not the easiest but definitely far from impossible. Just need to slow down and take care of it.

Or simply don’t quote like this post ;)
