Kitchen Knife Sprints: Any Interest?
Re: Kitchen Knife Sprints: Any Interest?
I could be interested depending on the particulars but also struggle with it being a sprint. Would like to have a set and not just one knife; would also like the opportunity to build the set over time and not be a one shot or you missed out scenario. On-line kitchen cutlery dealers are doing exclusives with other companies so I suspect a dealer may be willing to take a risk doing an exclusive.

I'd be interested if it has steels other than vg10 and mbs
how about a 3v meat cleaver?

Re: Kitchen Knife Sprints: Any Interest?
I've seen chinese manufactured knives advertised as VG-10. No telling if it's actually VG-10 or not without testing the metallurgy though.koenigsegg wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 8:56 amI think they like keeping it all in Japansteeljustice wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 8:03 amI read somewhere can't remember where think it was in some other knife forum and don't know if it's true, that VG10 steel is only allowed to be used in knives blades Mfg. in Japan.
There was a really good thread on the topic in the past but I'm having trouble finding it

Dammit, I was excited about those until I read this thread.
And smiling once again, since the March Spyderco Byte says there will also be a version of these with black G-10 handles and BD1N blades. :)

Yes, that’s more like it. I share your dislike for carbon steel kitchen cutlery. The Deacon wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2019 1:07 pmThe Deacon wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 7:46 ambearfacedkiller wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 7:38 amI assume that the Murray Carter knives will be made in Japan since it uses Super Blue.

Re: Kitchen Knife Sprints: Any Interest?
Curious how the Minarai series with BD1N steel and injection molded handles will coexist with the current kitchen line, specifically the Bunka Bocho vs the K08 Santoku and the Petty vs the K04/K05 Utility.
Re: Kitchen Knife Sprints: Any Interest?
To me the collab kitchen knives remind me of the handles you stick on the end of a file. I prefer my kitchen knife handles to at least approach the plunge line or overlap into the spine of the knife a bit. On short handles or long blades I often pinch the spine of the blade. I’d like to see the K04/K05 utilities with better handles. They can stay frn too, or upgrade to a micarta or g10.

The more affordable lines will be stainlessThe Deacon wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 7:46 am
Not me. I'm perfectly happy with MBS-26 and have zero interest in non-stainless kitchen knives.

Re: Kitchen Knife Sprints: Any Interest?
One of the few older Spyderco kitchen knives I never got my hand on was that BREADKNIFE they had back in the early 2000 decade. The 3 times I had a chance to buy one they were already discontinued and the people selling them wanted a huge price for them.
Yeah I would love one of those Spyderco BREADKNIVES and one of their older paring knives as well. The sooner, the better. I'm sort of surprised that Spyderco isn't a lot more aggressive with their marketing of their kitchen/culinary knives because every one of them that I've given as gifts over the years in every instance the person getting a Spyderco kitchen knife just absolutely loves them. I've never had anyone that didn't just love the Spyderco kitchen/culinary knife that I gave to them.

Re: Kitchen Knife Sprints: Any Interest?
I can't wait for these.
Re: Kitchen Knife Sprints: Any Interest?
I would really like to see a return of the Sashimi or any version of a kitchen knife from Spyderco with a WA handle. I missed these first time around and really want one as designed plus a full line to correspond (guytos, Petty, Shizuku etc.). VG-10, SG2/R2 would be stainless choices.
