Spydiechef is not discontinued

#1

Post by mehhhhhhhh »

I just an email from knifeworks cancelling my Spydiechef order. The reason for cancellation was that the knife was discontinued.

Other than being hard to come by I hadn’t heard anything of the knife being discontinued. Is it really true?

I hope that’s a miscommunication. Doesn’t sound right.

I seriously doubt that since they just did a CQI update on it not long ago and it sells out immediately whenever it's in stock. I'm guessing they just messed up their inventory at KW and couldn't fill the order, especially since I know they're moving their warehouse according to their newsletter.

This had better be an error. I sure hope Spyderco isn't thinking the Drunken is the successor to the Chef...

Thanks for the heads up, ordered from DLT.

On a side note I saw it was available on amazon, how does everyone feel about ordering knives from amazon? From my experience there are to be a lot of used/open box items being sold as new.

Unless it's an opinel or a cheap kitchen knife, no.

Ah, the old Amazon question. This is an opportunity for me to say two things.

1) Amazon has always made things right promptly with no hassle and no questions asked.

2) I have had two disappointing experiences, which due to the above only resulted in wasted time. One time they simply sent the wrong knife (A Chicago when I ordered a Cat). The other I bought a reduced price "returned" knife, and someone had returned a counterfeit. (Sneaky no-good).

Though I do lots of business with Amazon, now I buy my knives from the usual list of knife specific sellers in most cases.

Curious what happened with the lock bar issue? Never saw a definitive reply, Perhaps Sal put the brakes on production to straighten something out?

What was the problem with the lock bar other than a little stick out of the box?

Does Spyderco ever acknowledge when items are discontinued? Or do they just let them quietly die?

I wonder what happened there, as well.
Hopefully we’ll get an answer one day.
