Do you guys making these comments care nothing about ergonomic differences or is every 4 inch blade knife just another 4 inch blade knife to you? I guess we really didn't need the Police 4 either since we already had the Calypso?

If the weight (76 g) spec'ed in that thread is correct, it took all the excitement out of the Chief for me today. That will be the first >= 4" blade Spyderco that I won't own. Well, that and the Renegade.Sumdumguy wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2019 7:15 amviewtopic.php?f=2&t=83370&start=100Doeswhateveraspidercan wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2019 6:27 amSo I see it is coming soon are there any pictures of what it looks like yet?

Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?
Hard to imagine that will be the weight. The Native 5 G10 linerless is close to 3.1oz. I don't see how the Chief can be 2.7oz. Lined Police 4 is 4.6oz. The Chief may be closer to 4oz. Not sure if that makes a difference to you.

I would love the Chief with liners is all. Not a liner-less construction like the Manix back-lock, for instance.

Excited by the linerless construction and thin (0.11") blade stock. This might kick the Caly 3.5 out of my pocket...until the LW is released anyway.

Not a fan of liner-less construction especially on larger blades. There is enough play in the smaller ones I have. Hope this is not a trend to get prices down. I would rather pay a bit more for more solid durable quality.
Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?
I don't think there's a connection between linerless G-10 and bladeplay. My Lil' Native has zero bladeplay. My Native 5 CF/S90V had zero bladeplay. My Manix2 lockback had zero bladeplay. My Cold Steels with Tri-Ad lock and linerless G-10 have zero bladeplay.
Or are you saying that bladeplay develops from extensive use?

Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?
My Native5 salt developed blade play very swiftly after first coming in too stiff, Then I had to tighten it down I have never once encountered this with knives having liners.
I like FRN but going linerless with it is not something I like.

Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?
This isn't FRN. Sounds like your pivot screw loosened.
Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?
What have you been cutting with it? I've used frn linerless knives fairly hard at times. Salt 2 SE and Manix 2 LW. I haven't experienced any play in either. Maybe you're just not hitting that sweet spot of the slightest turn of the pivot screw?Doeswhateveraspidercan wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2019 4:32 pmMy Native5 salt developed blade play very swiftly after first coming in too stiff, Then I had to tighten it down I have never once encountered this with knives having liners.

My linerless manix 2 is solid as the day I bought it with no play. I expect the same from the chiefDoeswhateveraspidercan wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2019 4:03 pmNot a fan of liner-less construction especially on larger blades. Ditto you and Popsickle.
I don't get all this consternation about linerless g10 construction.
Those g10 slabs aren't going to flex much if at all. Not to mention they'll still have full-length steel backspacers.
Don't have any reasonable expectation of blade play either personally. Zero issues with my Native lightweights, etc, in frn, so why would expect issues with the Chief?
Balance? None of my linerless/lightweight knives are unbalanced in any way.
To each his own of course, but this is the first larger folder that's really stoked my interest in a while, can't wait.

Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?
We'll have to see .... the linerless manix 2 LW has significant steel re-enforcement around the Pivot that I'm actually comfortable with; it weighs 85g, BTW. The Backlock Manix does not, the pivot sits smack in the center of G10 on both sides. The Chief could just be a scaled Manix back-lock is what I'm afraid of. Then again, we are all different .... I know there are a lot of happy Manix back-lock users.Popsickle wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2019 6:42 pmMy linerless manix 2 is solid as the day I bought it with no play. Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?
I hope it weighs 12 ounces. More chiefs for me!
Amazing how much weight matters to some people.
And Vivi, I already know you like to jogg in the mountains in soccer shorts with a knife in your pocket.
But let's be real guys, there are plenty of light weight Spyderco's. A F***ING S*** TON, in fact. An extra ounce or 2 on ONE model is not only NOT a big deal, but welcomed to some of us.

“NATIVE 5 SALT”
“LINERLESS FRN”
This knife only comes in “FRN”
Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?
Since my post seems to have been skipped over multiple times for whatever reason...when it doesn't even involve G10, for whatever reason they brought up G10...when you were clearly talking about FRN. Please answer, I'm curious.TkoK83Spy wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2019 6:39 pmWhat have you been cutting with it? I've used frn linerless knives fairly hard at times. Salt 2 SE and Manix 2 LW.
