Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
I like the chief a lot. It somehow reminds me of the jd smith, a sprint a really regret passing on several years back. Also like the look of the endela, and the p4 ltwt.

Video: Spyderco 2019 Production Sample – Police 4 Lightweight
This year, I managed to also shoot some video of the various production samples. I figured this might give an even better impression of the new Spyderco knives. First up, the excellent Police 4 Lightweight Production Sample!

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
Good, thanks!
I think it was still stuck on 'private' when I first posted it. It should be public and viewable now.

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
At 76 grams weight the Native Chief is obviously liner-less. Bummer.
Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
I think Police4 Lightweight VG-10 Black FRN for around $85 will sell well. It's good to see more VG-10/FRN from Japan since with liner and G-10 they're so costly. Another good move is Sage5 FRN to go along with the current Chaparral FRN for less costly folders from Taichung.

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
Right, at that weight it just can't have liners. But maybe the weight is not stated correctly? At about 1:00 and even more so at about 1:55 into the vid it looks like there were liners. Not sure though, just can look at the vid on my crappy cell phone at the moment.
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
While the Chief is stunning (designed in the dark, my as*!), the Sage 5 LW would get the most use from me. I like that it has nested liners.
I've been using a Sage 2 some and like the design. However, I feel it's a tad heavy for a wire clip, so this one should be perfect in that regard. The scales will probably provide some extra pocket grip as well.

Ooh ooohh oooohhh that Native Chief! I have GOT to have one of those! Wow!
I also have to get a P4 LW, too.

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
The chief looks great indeed. But as I already posted: The tip could be really fragile possibly, even more so than on the Mili maybe? I´d really be interested in how you (and others) think about that.. I mean, so far all knives of the Native family (Native, Native LW, Lil Native, lets put the Shaman also in that row) are rather stout working blades, also when it comes to tip-strength. The Chief maybe not.
Though on some pics it looks like as if the distal taper of the blade makes the tip a bit more robust than you´d guess at first glance.
Thoughts on that, anyone?

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
Mr Blonde, thank you very much for showing us the goods, these threads are always a joy to go through.
I know you are not allowed to discuss a lot of what you've seen, but can you say if there was anything Hawkbill related in the works? After having tried it, I just can't get enough of that lovely SE Hawkbill style of blade :D
Once again, thanks for sharing!

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
I am probably not the person to ask. The Natives are not my favorite knives. They do not fit my hand and there is too little cutting edge for the amount of blade. It is not that I think they are terrible, but I just do not prefer them.Wartstein wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2019 1:35 amThe chief looks great indeed. I like this new Native Chief with that useable splinter picking point, long straightish blade, and back lock (my preferred lock). I do not pry with my knives as a rule, so a pointy tip does not bother me at all.

Re: Spyderco 2019 Production Sample – Native Chief
This is just beautiful. It is elegant, even. What a great looking design. I cannot wait to get this in my hand. @Vivi, take a look at this.Mr Blonde wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 3:49 amI have to say that the Native Chief was my favorite of the new knives that Spyderco showed at the meet. Call it nostalgia, as I remember seeing that concept design on the forums back in 1999 or so. This was back in the day, when you had to put a knife on a flatbed scanner, cover it with a cloth and you had a digital image you could share online! That first design was added to the wonderful mini-museum display of the native in the Spyderco Factory Outlet. The current Native Chief flows from the current Native 5 design, and features linerless G-10 handle construction and everything else you’re familiar with on a G-10 Native five, just a lot longer!
This knife felt very light and solid in the hand. It felt lighter and thinner than the Emphasis. The Native Chief’s long slender blade also reminded me of a large Calypso. I can’t wait to get my hands on my own production sample of the native Chief, it’s very high on my wish list!
Specifications
Overall Length: 23,1 cm / 9.09 inches
Blade Length: 10,4 cm / 4.09 inches
Blade Thickness: 3 mm / 0.11 inches
Weight: 76 grams / 2.68 ounces
I have no information on pricing or specific release dates.
