Is it permanent ? Should I drop my Shaman into boiling water when it arrives ?
Will I be able to see this "cooties" with my plain reading glasses ?
We are experiencing 102 F degree heat her in Queensland,Australia, When I open the package, will
the "cooties" die immediately ?
Thanks in advance.

Where is the number 600 coming from for the production run size? The first post I see mentioning 600 pieces says he saw it "somewhere on the internet," and then I keep seeing that number repeated. Has this been verified by a reliable source?

There is a rumor on the web that the M$ Shaman has cooties. I cannot independently verify this but I urge all my friends here to wash your hands.
Then I shouldn't handle mine before I sell it. All the more reason to sell it.

The only known solution for M4 Shaman cooties is to send them to me for disposal!

I've been carrying this every since I got it last week.
Should've gotten a Shaman long ago...

I just received my M4 Shaman and it is currently submerged in boiling water.
About two or three hours boiling and it should be safe and germ free - I hope ?

3 hours of boiling might not be enough. Check with the CDC for the proper decontamination method required.

I'm afraid I might have been mistaken. The M4 Shaman must be boiled in extra virgin olive oil for approximately 72 hours. I have selfishlessly started a service in which I will detox all M4 Shamans at my extensive laboratory for no charge. Ater which our team of experts will determine if your Shaman can be safely shipped back to you based on analysis provided to the CDC and the AMA. This is a potential nationwide epidemic so all precautions have to be established. Also, any half naked Shamans should be wrapped to ensure that there are no potential sexual charges that might arise during our mission. We appreciate your cooperation in this most delicate matter. Remember, knives don't kill, but cooties have no conscience.

My new M4 Shaman. I'm really liking this knife!!! Hope to see more exclusives of this model, in some other steels. I could see these kicking the PM2's out of my pocket. Very comfortable design, and a nice, beefy blade that still cuts quite well. Definitely enjoying mine! :D

Forced patina on blade using mustard a couple days after I got it. Turned out nicely, but hard to capture on camera. The whole blade looks like the first half does, but have to get it in the light right to see it. Will likely be dying the scales blue soon.

What kind of mustard and how long did you leave it?

Regular old French's yellow mustard. I usually squirt a little out onto a napkin (dime sized), then lightly dab it onto the blade with my index finger until all the metal is covered. Dabbing it on like that gives a nice, somewhat random pattern to the patina since there are areas that dry relatively quick, and other areas that stay moist for awhile. I usually do this several times, washing it off with warm water in between. The first time is usually left on for about 5-7 minutes, to get a good initial layer of oxidation, then I do it again once or twice more for ~10 minutes tops each time.

The patina doesn't show up really well right away either. Once I'm done, I wash the blade with Dawn dish soap and hot water, then rub a very light coat of mineral oil onto it. The patina usually starts looking nice like this in a day or two. It isn't super noticeable on the M4 unles the light hits it just right. I've done this on several Spyderco CPM-M4 blades (and Maxamet, Rex45, 52100, etc.), and haven't had any rust issues afterwards. But I live in a pretty dry climate here in CO, so that could well be playing into it as well.
