Love for the Lil' Matriarch?
HI everyone,
I realize the Little Matriarch is more self defense oriented but there is something about it I just like and think it would make a good EDC Knife.
Waht are peiple experiences with it in PE and SE?

One of my all time favorites. When I worked in a warehouse it got tons of pocket time.

Love the lil matriarch.
It’s a decent edc. The tis not as thin or extended as the larger ones so it works for more general tasks. Wish they would make the serrated again.

Much love for the Lil’ Mat! :)

I used to carry mine a lot. Very useful EDC. I've never quite bought the idea of it being all that useful for defense, but it's as good a box opener as any other Spyderco in my experience.
These days I mostly carry it while running. The Chaparral owns my pocket these days.

I’ve always been keen on the blade but the Delica handle is a bit small for me so I’ve held off. If a PE version was available from somewhere other than Bento Box I would probably pick one up though.
I’d be all over a Matriach 2 in PE if it was ever released. Better yet, an Endela version.

I have a new SE, a big knife, a perfect size for EDC

Re: Love for the Lil' Matriarch?
Ok looks like I am buying the only question is to buy 1 or 2?
How much pocket time have the people who own and use these actually give these?
How much do people who own these actually use these?
What do they use them for? I already learned from a reply here it is good for opening boxes and the VG-10 makes it a real winner with me.
Looks to me like this knife is great for opening boxes, packages, hard plastic packaging and even delicate work with that tip.
This even looks like it would work in the kitchen and be good for de-boning and even useful with vegetables.
I sure wish there were some videos on youtube of people actually using their knives instead of all the jewelry review type videos gosh but I am sick of those.

I would love to see a PE in LC200N.
I would kill for the white one! Delica handle with a Lil Matriarch blade, or did they make a white LM?

When I worked in a warehouse I carried it and cut thousands of pallet straps and banding. Didn't cut much cardboard with it as we had a cardboard compactor big enough to crush a small car.
Now it is my main gardening and mushroom hunting knife. It is a great harvester.

I would start with 1. They're not all that available anyway.Doeswhateveraspidercan wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 6:33 amOk looks like I am buying the only question is to buy 1 or 2?
I carried nothing but Lil Matriarch for about a year. There's not really any reason to not carry it exclusively. But only you know how distracted you'll be by the next shiny object.Doeswhateveraspidercan wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 6:33 amOk looks like I am buying the only question is to buy 1 or 2?
Nearly everything. They're a good compromise between regular and hawkbill blade shapes.Doeswhateveraspidercan wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 6:33 amWhat do they use them for? I already learned from a reply here it is good for opening boxes and the VG-10 makes it a real winner with me.

Delicate work with the tip? Eh... ergos aren't really in favor of that but it works in a pinch.
I can't think of a worse application for this knife. I don't understand why people insist on taking folders into the one part of our world that is fully stocked with purpose-built knives. But even among folders it's about as useless a blade profile as you could come up with for kitchen work.Doeswhateveraspidercan wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 6:33 amThis even looks like it would work in the kitchen and be good for de-boning and even useful with vegetables.
Off for a run with my Lil Matriarch.

Yeah, i've never understood this either. I'm about as big of a Spydie lover as they come, but I use kitchen knives in the kitchen. The exception being I actually love my Dfly2 H1 PE Salt for deveining shrimp and haven't found a paring knife that feels as comfortable for this task.

Nothing to understand small kitchen and enjoy using my folders for everything. Enjoyment of the action of using different knives that cut differently for mundane tasks
Re: Love for the Lil' Matriarch?
I think some people just don’t have enough other things to cut.steelcity16 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 12:57 pmYeah, i've never understood this either. Re: Love for the Lil' Matriarch?
I’m with dwsc on this one. To know what a knife can do, you have to use it for as many different tasks as possible. I use mine for everything from food prep to construction.zhyla wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 6:08 pmI think some people just don’t have enough other things to cut.steelcity16 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 12:57 pmYeah, i've never understood this either.
