Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
Man, the hits keep coming! I really like the Small Efficient and the Sage LW, and the Endela, and the 2 Dflys! Ill probably get the Small Efficient and wait for sprints/exclusives/Salts of the others. Any of these in Salt form would be fantastic!
I see a theme here that these are all variations of existing popular knives. I think that is a great strategy. There are so many possible variations of the many great models that would surely do well. I would love to see a locking drop point UKPK made in Golden and sprinted with steels like Cruwear. A mini Stretch would be great. A Dfly XL many of us have asked for. Turning existing models like the Chap LW and the Military into Salts. Bringing the Jester back as an H1 Salt model. Wharnyizing and Hawkbillizing and Emersonizing and Tantoizing models. The possibilities are endless! Keep em coming!! :)

I don’t doubt it. I think the factory one just looks better.

Pretty sure the Emphasis and Efficients are Sal’s designs. They look absolutely gorgeous.
I love all the in house designs best. Proves who my favourite designers are.
I wonder if a wharnie Manbug will ever happen.
Thanks, Wouter. You are a pro, and a swell guy.

Wouldn’t that be a Caly Jr. or thereabouts?
Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
Need an Endela. Hopefully not TOO far off!

More like the Caly 3, but yes—if it were made in Golden, that's what it would be.Woodpuppy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 7:04 pmsteelcity16 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 6:23 pmI would love to see a locking drop point UKPK made in Golden and sprinted with steels like Cruwear.

I have a recollection that Eric and Ed designed the Efficient.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

I have also been hoping for more value folders with 50/50 choils. The Emphasis is really what i've been keen to see! I'll also be curious to see how the wire clip is attached. I don't mind 8cr, but a different steel like BD1 would be cool.
Spydergirl88 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 3:24 pmNoticed the g10 backspacer on the Small Efficient. Nice. On the Emphasis and Small Efficient I noticed just a single screw holding in the wire clip. Is this to reduce cost for these value folders or is this a new design of a press-fit threaded barrel for the clip screw? Similar to how the PM2 lanyard tube is press fit into the scales. Thank you Eric for the great new value folders which I'm assuming are your designs with black wire clips.
Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
Also would like to see G10 handles in some other colors. I know my green Efficient was a Blue Ridge Knives 'limited edition' exclusive. Hopefully some distributor or dealer orders some other color options.
Also did Wouter drop a hint about a Native Chief? I expect (hope)that we see more Taichung and Golden built knives in the next edition...?

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
2019 seems to be a good year for more affordable models. I am feeling like I haven't been this excited about this many new Spyderco knives in years. P3 lightweight, Dragonfly wharnie, Sage 5, Little Efficient (really needs a better name), Emphasis, Bow River, new kitchen line. I might even buy a waved D'fly just because.
On a side note, they really should drop the unnecessary solid back spacers on the Efficient line, I removed the one on my efficient- serves no real function. Add lightness and simplicate .

That Endela though. In hand it reminds me of a Raven or Polestar; sooooo stoked to see this prototype, because for years now I've imagined a PM2-sized-Endura. The Endela with HAP40 or ZDP189 would be a great success.

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
Caly is a leaf as well. I'd want the drop point blade. And yes, Made in Golden rather than Japan so we could get all those sweet sweet steels like Cruwear, 4V, etc. And G10 is way cheaper here vs. the Japan G10 models. So basically, take today's G10 Red UKPK exclusive, add a backlock, and a Cruwear drop point blade.dj moonbat wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 8:36 pmMore like the Caly 3, but yes—if it were made in Golden, that's what it would be.Woodpuppy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 7:04 pmsteelcity16 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 6:23 pmI would love to see a locking drop point UKPK made in Golden and sprinted with steels like Cruwear.

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
Hi Jazz,
Thanx much for the kind words, but the "Efficient" family is a collaboration between Ed Schempp and Eric.
A Manbug "Warnie" depends on you guys.
And yes, Wouter is exceptional.

I've been carrying a "Chief prototype. A 20 year old "sal" design with modern "Eric" mods.

Why isn't it called the Lil' Efficient? That has a much nicer ring to it.

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2019 Report
Thanks, Sal! Super excited for a Native Chief! Golden back lock? It would be amazing to see a LW Salt Chief in LC! I am really a fan of LC and hope to see more of it. Any chance that Salt LW LC knives can be another color than yellow (bright lime green)? I love my Native Salt and Chef! I also quite love my Stretch 2 in V Toku! Thanks for all the incredible knives!
Re: Spyderco 2019 Production Sample – Dragonfly 2 Wharncliffe
Yes! The wharnfly is a thing! So excited. I do agree though that it really needs a swedge! Gotta keep it in line with the dragonfly family and swedge it up. :Daraneae wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 5:22 pmThank-you Sal!!!!!! This is something I have waited for for years! It really needs a swedge, but I can add that if I must. Can I have one yesterday please?Mr Blonde wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 2:46 pmThe wharncliffe Spyderco Delica was popular enough to bring out an Endura with a big ‘wharnie’ blade, and now we can look forward to a Dragonfly 2 with a wharncliffe blade. Personally, I prefer the ‘wharnie’ in a smaller blade. An original Kiwi has been my office folder for over 10 years now. I’ll definitely add this lil’ big wharncliffe to my everyday carry rotation!
