Fixed Blade Friday!

#1

Post by legOFwhat? »

Since we have a Throwback Thursday (I'm too new to participate :( :D ) how about a day where a fixed Spydie gets thrown into the mix? I've tried most days to carry a mule with me along with a variant of para3 or the occasional DF2.

I'd love to hear some fixed blade stories from you all. With all the mule/fixed speak of late what are you doing/planning to do with yours?

So who's with me? This Friday I'll pack around 1 of these 2:

I'd like to carry a fixed blade now and then. However I wear a uniform at work so after hours is gym shorts or sweats. No belt.

I'd really like to join you, but can't.

Why? Well, I don't own a Spyderco fixed blade. ;) They just don't offer (yet) what I look for inside my fixed blades price range...
And for me when it comes to fixed blades I am more rational than with folders. I currently have six (fixed blades), which cover every need I have, and unlike it is with folders, I feel no urge to aquire more...

BUT, that said: I'd love to read more about fixed blade Spydies in that thread... :)
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

I fall into that as well during evenings and most weekends, it's ball shorts at home, but I will slip a fixed inside the waist band if in the yard or taking a walk with the wife.

I rarely wear a belt, so I usually slip them lfp clip side out. I can slip my shirt over the handle pretty easy and it's relatively unseen, not that it's an issue around here.

Looks great. What brand are each of those handles or where did you get them ?
Looking to get some for a newly purchased mule and all I’ve really found so far are the Halerpin. Just interested in what is still available out there.

Thanks, the scales are made from purchased linen or canvas Micarta (brown is linen and OD green canvas) then shaped and mounted by me. Fun little hobby...

I really don't know of anyone who makes them other than Halerpin, others may chime in that would better know than I. Lots of inspirational ideas in the Mule Team thread in the Photo gallery section: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=31531

I think I will carry my Street Beat!

I love that Jumpmaster 2, Reject! I have been thinking about getting one, I would love to see them do a 3rd rendition in LC200N.

This Friday i Will be carrying my trusty bushcraft since I'm going to be in the Woods.
If I try to carry a fixed blade in the city I would probably be arrested :)

Shorts are no excuse. Setup the g-clip for IWB carry and they'll stay put just fine even without a belt :D

I usually setup all my Spyderco fixed blades this way. That way I can clip them IWB in shorts with no belt, and when I want them OWB I clip them to my belt with the sheath between my belt and pants. No drawbacks compared to "normal" OWB carry in my opinion - in fact it makes them easier to take off since the clip is easier to pull back.

Anyways, here's my entry. Street Bowie. I carry it a few times a week. Today I hiked about ten miles to a secret spot of mine near a lake. Gonna sit here and watch the sunset.

Now those are nice! I take it they are called Jumpmasters? I'd never seen them before; I especially like the one in the middle :)

 I don’t know if I qualify to play in this game.
While I have a few Spyderco fixed blade knives, :( I can’t really carry them on me on each Friday.
I don’t think the local constabulary would view it well. Carry this on Friday and would most likely spend Saturday in jail.

Balance point.
