Alistair Phillips Custom Kapara Backspacers

#1

Post by Liquid Cobra »

Looks like Alistair has has crated a bunch of bright red backspacers for his Kapara that more closely match the color he uses on his customs. I’ve been following his work on this through his Instagram account, he created them using a CNC machine. Very cool indeed. Ordered mine!

They are available on his site here:

Thanks for posting that! I never know what is allowed with the forum rules and so forth. If anyone is interested this first batch is from the same sheet of G10 that the original backspacers for the Redback prototype came from. Just a bit of trivia for you all.

Really nice and subtle touch. I might order one before the days over.

Why did they change the color in the first place?

Perhaps a lot of burgundy sheets of G10 kicking around? :)

Too bad because I like the designer's choice better.

Because they didn't want to be using it on everything for the next five years. Remember the foliage green G-10 they had custom made?

I remember foliage green but I didn't know it was a custom color. It was one of my favorite colors though.

It seems like the designer has the inside track on the G-10 spacers and could have supplied them.
I mean would it be possible to make money off a $26 back spacer?
It's not a big deal though, but just makes me wonder.
It's a nice knife.

Actually the entire story of Alistair's knife from the original BBQ proto to the final product actually took years. Certainly worth the effort. It's a beautiful design. Thanx Alistair.

I actually prefer the more subdued red on the production Kapara, but I like the other colors, too. That blue is really nice.

Agreed. I'd also take a funky purple one!
